We cannot even begin to convey our horrible experience and incredibly rude behavior of the staff at this hotel. Particularly from “the manager”.
We booked the ballroom at the hotel for our daughter’s wedding event. We were able to pay the deposit promptly without issues. We asked for a meeting with the manager Connie, three weeks before the event, that was arranged. My husband had to change around his work schedule for this meeting with Connie. She did not show up, she was not at the hotel and the front desk employees were unable to help us. After waiting for an hour we were told that she will come in half an hour. After waiting for another half an hour, she finally arrived.
During this meeting we were told that a stage with risers is being added to our booking which we never asked for. We clarified this in an email correspondence (after the meeting) with her and she replied and agreed to our request, she said this was fine and it will be removed. Any timeline for making the payment was not discussed. We were expecting to receive a final invoice before the event but that was not sent.
The day of the event, our DJ arrived at the venue earlier to set up. He was locked out and demanded he pay the rest of the balance. A balance for which we received no invoice. We then rushed to the hall and Connie was no where to be found. People at the reception were told not to let us use the venue until we paid. In spite of our repeated requests, risers were used and we were being charged for these. She not only added the stage that we did not ask for, but also demanded we pay for an event that occurred a week prior, that had nothing to do with us. All this was being done to us on a day that was very important for us. We were preparing for this event for months but the disorganization and negligence of the Royal Hotel’s management and staff caused unnecessary anxiety for us. The entire interaction was rude and belligerent and only relented when we showed her own emails. The venue was paid for on the spot
We tried to reach the manager Connie, to explain our experience with the venue, after the event. She very rudely told us that an invoice does not need to be sent to the clients, clients are expected to come physically, ask for the invoice, and pay for the hall. We explained that we met with her before the event and this was not conveyed. She rudely ended the phone call.
The degree of unprofessionalism is shocking. We will not be recommending this hotel nor this venue in the future. To those considering, we advise that you choose a different venue as this experience was not worth the stress on a very...
Read moreUpon check in there were three staff members at the front desk and it took several minutes for anyone to acknowledge us even after trying to speak to them. They seemed more annoyed than anything that people were there that needed to check in. The hotel overall is dated, and not very clean. The rooms are quite dirty, stains on the carpet (that doesn’t seem to even be vacuumed all that often), the grout on the shower walls are visibly dirty and moldy. There is dust everywhere, windows are dirty so you can’t see your great view into a parking lot. The sheets appear clean however there are some more than questionable stains on the bed skirt. During the middle of our stay our key cards stopped working so we had them changed at the front desk, with staff blaming the demagnetization on us keeping our cards next to our phones. The key cards were kept in an RFID protected wallet. After several minutes we received a phone call from the front desk and we were moved to a different room due to errors in their booking system. The room we were moved to was smaller, dirtier and had an unpleasant odour which seems to linger through the halls. There was only one nightstand with the queen bed, which I understand is more of an inconvenience than anything, however there was also only one available electrical outlet next to the bed and no USB plug ins. In 2022 where everyone has a device I would assume this to be a standard amenity in rooms. We were offered no compensation, apologies, or partial return of our money for the downgrade. Staff continued to make excuses for this error and were less than accommodating. Considering this was not something that was told to us upon check in it was a more than unpleasant surprise. Overall I would not suggest wasting your money here, there are far nicer hotels for far cheaper.
ETA. Upon checkout I did not ask to extend my stay. I had originally booked for one night and my partner had booked an additional night. Days before check in, the same day my partner booked the additional night, I had called to ask if we could combine the bookings and I was told that that was fine and I stayed on the phone with one of your front desk staff as she changed it. Upon check in I had reconfirmed that this was the case and everything with our booking had been combined and was good to go. The fact that management will come on here and attempt to make weak, false excuse speaks volumes to the way this...
Read moreThis visit is my 10th stay here on business. All visits have been nothing short of positive until my most recent. I'm always given a room that has been renovated, and thought this time I was told the same, the room was a bit "tired". The bathroom fan and the a/c unit fan rattle as if something is loose (most annoying), the chair in the room has fabric that is torn, hole in the screen of the window, and the tub surround is stained permanently with a couple of brown streaks. The staff welcomed me with their usual warm hospitality thought I'm not sure the even person the first night I stayed there was enjoying his job. He didn't seem very responsive, even to my saying thank you for something he did for me. This is the exception to my usual experience here. The beds are comfy, as are the pillows, and the rooms are fairly quiet (except when people sit in their rooms talking with their doors open. Why do people do that? Does it occur to them that the rest of the floor isn't interested in hearing them talk? The breakfast is well worth the visit. A nice selection of cold and hot food options. Pity the restaurant hadn't stayed open for other meals as it was pre-pandemic. This is not the hotel's doing rather that there isn't a new owner (I gather they work independently). It's worth staying here, don't get me wrong. Maybe check out some of the possible annoyances (like fans) or other things that are not quite up to par. Check it out before you unpack. Of course, if the hotel is full (as it was during my latest stay) there isn't an option of moving rooms.
I had a room preselected for me in advance of my stay, however the people who were in that room decided to stay an extra night. I really wanted that room and it seems odd that someone can extend their stay and someone else assigned to that room gets bumped. Might be better to move the people that want to extend their stay with a simple comment "your room is booked by someone else so we're happy to move you to another if you wish to extend your stay". The room I had been preassigned for was in better shape than this one.
Again, please know that this is not the typical experience I've had at this hotel. For the most part it has been very positive. Next time I stay I will be certain to tell the staff I'd rather not be bumped from my preassigned room regardless if someone decides to stay...
