Many individuals have praised AYA's beef noodles and salted crispy chicken, and today, my husband and I finally had the opportunity to try it. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment.
We ordered a deluxe red braised beef knife-cut noodle soup, which came with tough beef, wontons with thick skin and minimal filling, minimal pickled vegetables, and a half-boiled egg that lacked marinated flavor. The knife-cut noodles were somewhat chewy, but the broth was completely flavorless. Having had my fair share of salted crispy chicken, AYA's version was excessively salty. I had to drink a cup of tea with each bite of chicken. Previously, I saw a group review praising AYA's salted crispy chicken as crispy, flavorful, and juicy, but our experience was entirely different. Both my husband and I found the chicken to be extremely salty, small in portion, and not crispy at all.
My husband ordered a fresh taro milk tea with pearls, which we both agreed was the worst we've ever had. The milk tea had no flavor, and the pearls were small and hard, with a milk taste reminiscent of powdered milk. We couldn't detect any fresh taro flavor. My husband requested additional sugar, but the second time they brought it out, it was still flavorless and difficult to drink.
My husband also ordered a pickled vegetable and intestine dish, which was overpowered by ginger and green onions, with minimal pickled vegetables and a flavorless intestine. I experienced gastrointestinal distress immediately after the meal. I spent considerable time in their washroom. We will not be returning, and it's no wonder they only had two tables of customers during lunch.
The two servers were too busy chatting and had to be asked repeatedly to refill our tea. They stood around idly, chatting, with no smile or courtesy. Our meal cost $58, including tip. We left feeling disappointed and...

Read moreHeard great things about them having the best beef noodle soup in Vancouver and out of the restaurants I've tried, I think this spot is my favourite.
We got their deluxe beef noodle soup with knife cut noodles and their braised pork on rice dish. The beef noodle soup was delicious, slightly sweet broth with tender pieces of beef shank. The knife cut noodles pairs perfectly by clinging onto the broth while being chewy. I wish they provided more broth because after eating some noodles, you're actually not left with a lot to sip on. Likewise, the soup wasn't as hot as we would have liked but all the elements in the dish were solid.
The braised pork on rice was disappointing for the price you pay. At first glance it looks like a lot of toppings but they don't give enough meat and it's 80% rice. A big portion of the rice is covered in meat sauce which makes the rice super oily. It's hard to go back for another bite of this dish since they don't provide enough mustard greens to cut through the oiliness and saltiness. I wouldn't order this again so honestly just stick to the beef...
