[Update: March 29, 2024]
LOL! It looks like we won't be returning here again. Yesterday (March 28, 2024), several Richmond news articles reported that Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) had ordered Cantonese BBQ to close between March 19 and 22 due to six critical infractions and one non-critical infraction. These infractions included unsanitary conditions, improper dishwashing, and signs of a rat infestation. It also seems that in September 2023, they received a violation ticket for unsanitary premises. So, they are repeat offenders.
Awwwww, bummer! My family loved their food, and I originally gave them five stars.
No wonder their food was so delicious—the Ratatouille rat was doing the cooking! 🤣😂🤪
too many choices. 😅 Had a hard time deciding
complimentary Chinese soup 雞腳霸王花湯. Didn't taste watered down. It was great!!
but no free coffee or tea. That's alright. I prefer the complimentary soup anyway.
$16.95 for "Dry Fried Beef Hor Fun (straight translation😅) 乾炒牛河" Big plate. Lots of noodles. Beef fillets were tender and didn't taste of baking soda.
wife loved her $16.95 fried rice 揚州炒飯, but she can only eat half the amount and doggie bagged the other half. Bring your own containers.
will come back again and try their set dinners. Saw in the menu some enticing set dinners that caught our attention. Everytime wife sees Peking Duck, her eyes sparkle 🤣😂 and become demanding
[Update Sept 4, 2023] Move over Tsim Chai and Happy Day Cafe, Cantonese BBQ is our family's new favorite Chinese noodle restaurant:
the food are consistently well made and the portion is always huge. I always doggie bag 50% of the portion and wife's at 66%. That means it takes me 2 meals to finish each dish; wife would take 3 meals as she is a smaller eater
Note: common sight in this restaurant is seeing couples sharing one dish. That's how big their dishes are.
wife says of my original 4-star rating, the complimentary soup deserves 3-stars. We love the soup. The soup are homemade-like, simple enough yet tasty and not watered down. The restaurant is so confident with their soup that you can buy their soup separately for takeout. Dine here, and it's free of charge. Each person is entitled to about two of their small rice bowl sizes.
today, I chose "Fried Beef Hor Fun with Black Bean Sauce & Pepper 豉椒牛肉炒河 - Scrambled 兜亂" Big quantity, probably 20-25% more than other Chinese noodle restaurants like Tsim Chai and Happy Day Cafe, delicious and even better than most restaurants in Hong Kong. The same goes to the "Dry Fried Beef Hor Fun 乾炒牛河" I had last time I was here - better than Hong Kong's
Note: If you don't specify to the waitress "Scrambled 兜亂", the outcome will look and taste different as the default method is to pour sauce on top of plain noodles. This will lead to some noodles with excessive sauce while noodles on the bottom are deprived of sauce. You scrambling it yourself in the confined dish space will not have the same effect as the chef's big wok. 😅
You can request "Scrambled 兜亂" for both "Fried Beef Hor Fun with Black Bean Sauce & Pepper 豉椒牛肉炒河" and "Satay Beef Fried Hor Fun 沙爹牛肉炒河 (not available in this restaurant)". Try it,...

What stands out immediately is the value you get for your money. The portion sizes are more than generous; every dish is practically an invitation to share with your dining companions. The BBQ pork, roast duck, and crispy pork belly are all tender, flavorful, and expertly prepared.
One of my top recommendations is the BBQ pork with its perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The roast duck is tender, and the skin perfectly crispy. But perhaps the star of the show is the crispy pork belly, a masterpiece of crunchy skin and succulent meat that’s hard to beat.
The attentive staff ensures that your dining experience is memorable. They are always ready to answer questions and make recommendations if you’re new to Cantonese cuisine. The restaurant’s clean and cozy ambiance adds to the overall enjoyment.
In summary, this Cantonese BBQ restaurant is a treasure trove for those who appreciate good food at an excellent price point. Read moreSo it was our first visit to Cantonese BBQ restaurant and we came in 20 min before closing time. We were thinking they might turned us down but with big smiles we were seated in one of their smaller table. Pleasantly surprised but hopeful we ordered what's left on the bbq section: roast pork and roast duck and tofu scallop and eggplant casserole from the menu. Again no signs of reluctance but even friendlier gestures! Fantastic! Then our food came and feasting begin! Roast pork from last batch never tasted so good! Roast duck was ok bit dry but expected. The tofu, scallop n eggplant casserole is also a good one. Way past 10 (closing time) a gentleman from the counter which probably the manager/owner came around next to where we sat just to tidying up some chairs n tables, he said take your time enjoy your food. Wow! Then we told him we were sorry holding them up from their closing time but he kept on insisting it was all good. Love this place! Great food and attitude makes a great restaurant! Bravo to the manager and staffs of Cantonese BBQ! That experience shows the true quality of the restaurant and the team!...
