I recently visited this restaurant with a group of friends, and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. We went in in two different group, when we arrived, the first group warned us to sit separately in order to avoid the 18% gratuity when they see the menu (charge 18% gratuity for 8 or more people). Consequently, five of us ended up sitting apart from the first group, which was far from ideal for a group outing. Furthermore, we were disappointed to discover that the food did not live up to the authentic Japanese cuisine we had anticipated.
The real frustration arose when we received the bill and noticed that the 18% tips had been added, despite the fact that we only had five individuals at our table. When we raised this concern with our waiter, she defended the it is the policy and suggested that we should have been aware of it because it was stated on the menu. However, it seems illogical to assume that customers should be knowledgeable about the policy before even looking at the menu upon entering the restaurant.
To make matters worse, the waiter responded to our objections with a disrespectful tone, insinuating that our lack of familiarity with such policies was indicative of our infrequent restaurant visits. Her mocking attitude was highly unprofessional and only added to our disappointment.
After some discussion, the waiter initially agreed to waive the tips. However, she returned moments later, claiming that she had consulted the owner, who deemed it unacceptable and insisted on the tips being paid.
This entire situation was highly frustrating. While I understand that restaurants may have different policies, it is essential for them to communicate these clearly and professionally. The inconsistent policy enforcement, coupled with the disrespectful behaviour of our waiter, tarnished what could have been an enjoyable dining experience.
I sincerely hope that the management of this establishment reevaluates their policies and trains their staff to provide better customer service. As it stands, I cannot recommend this restaurant to others seeking an authentic Japanese dining experience or those who value respectful treatment and transparency in business...
Read moreIt's really infuriating! The food in this restaurant is just passable, but the attitude of the staff is extremely terrible. The staff were already cold and unenthusiastic before, and I put up with it. However, when I went there last time, the staff rolled their eyes at customers and even gossiped about other guests. They never took the initiative to refill the water during the meal. When I asked questions, they were dismissive. I raised my hand several times to call the waiter, but they just pretended not to see me. With such service, giving even one star is too much. I will never come again...
Thank you, boss, for your prompt reply. I can feel that you truly want to manage the restaurant with all your heart. I'm quite satisfied with the taste of the food in your restaurant and have no complaints about it. However, I'd like to give some feedback regarding the performance of the service staff.
Last Sunday at around 12o'clock in the morning, when we arrived at the restaurant, there were quite a lot of customers, but relatively few tables. At that time, I noticed that a group of boys at the table next to us only ordered one glass of orange juice, but the waiter brought two glasses. After the boys pointed out that one extra glass had been served, when the waiter took the extra glass back, he clearly showed an unhappy expression on his face and even talked about the customers at that table behind their backs.
In addition, there was a mother and daughter at another table. They asked for tissues three times in total. I'm not sure whether they finally got the tissues on the last request.
As for my table, I just asked how the dish I ordered was prepared. The waiter not only didn't answer me patiently but also showed an impatient attitude, perfunctorily dealing with me and didn't give me a clear reply at all.
I sincerely hope that the reputation of the restaurant won't be affected by the service attitude of the waiters. After all, this restaurant has been in business for many years, and as regular customers, we have been supporting it for a long time. We still hope that the restaurant can get...
Read moreI’d like to first say that I am a long time customer so I’m not just writing a bad review for one bad experience. Genuinely disappointed. I’ve been coming to Yuu since I was little when their store was small and I’m well into my 20s now. I almost always ordered the same thing— the tonkatsu curry. It was one of my favourites whenever we visit Richmond. In the last few years the portion of meat has gotten gradually smaller and honestly worse tasting. The breading is now dense and crusty and the rice is almost always lukewarm now. The salad I had today was half wilted with the lettuce being partially yellow. I’ve experienced this more than 5 times at this point so I’m sure I didn’t catch them at bad times: Now for the staff. The nice gentleman who oversaw the store for the longest time was also a highlight of the experience. I haven’t seen him in a while. The reason service doesn’t get 1 star is because I have fond memories of the store from years ago. Nowadays the servers are quite rude. It was quite hard to flag down a server, they don’t really watch for if you need help. My mom asked about whether chicken breast or thigh is used and the server was very short with her. Today when I ordered I asked for pork and not chicken, they brought chicken. Since we came all the way here my mum went to ask them to change it. They did but when they did they just kinda muttered under their breath, clanked the plater down and left. As we were not happy with this meal, we paid in cash and did not leave a tip (only a bit of the change from the bills). The server just walked up to me after my mom left with the tip tray glowering and said “keep it!” So obviously I ignored her and left. Also small footnote— initially when we indicated we were paying cash, they tried to take the receipt away.
I’m not coming back again. Will just pay more and go to Saku or Katsuya or any other place than here. It’s the end of a...
