It's long, so to sum it up quick, food looked good, but it isn't and it's cold. Place too hot and no air flow. Servers need more training on their food, but they are nice enough I guess?
Came in from the parking lot to see people in front of us waiting, servers cleaning up tables even though there's a few other tables open, but no one acknowledged any of us, and the place is very warm, temperature wise warm, muggy warm, stale air warm...
I went up to the cashier side, told them we were waiting, then they finally knew there's actually customers waiting instead of just randomly standing there like idiots...
Ok, sat down, table is of course still wet after they wiped, though still some scraps on table, doesn't matter, let's order. Got beef skewers, curry beef rice, and hainamese chicken rice...
My curry beef rice came first, not skewers, ok, no problem other than so much oil on the beef, I know there should be some, but not like that much... First bite... Interesting, it's barely luke warm, even though it's cooked all the way through. Dig into the rice, no taste, barely warm and actually no rice smell at all.
I told the server about its barely warm, she told me she'll take it back and reheat for me... REHEAT!?!? Huh?
When the plate came back, plate is cold, rice is a little if any warmer, the beef is also just very slightly warmer on the outside, and guess what? The only piece of lettuce is gone, the sauce, beef, potatos haven't even moved from the location when they took it back! And the rice is just as it were when I dug in earlier! I'm not sure if they need a better microwave?!?
The skewers, oh my God it's fat, tastes weirdly sweet, and sauce does not add anything to complement, and it's a bit warmer than my beef.
The hainamese chicken rice, the rice have no taste even though it's supposed to be chicken oil rice? YES ITS BARELY WARM. The ginger sauce is not sauce, it's just sliced ginger, asked the server if it's normal, they don't understand, we have to explain about if it's supposed to be a sauce? She have to ask the kitchen, and came back that they are now ginger slices instead somehow... But look at the amount of other sauces on the chicken! It's almost like someone skilled soup on it...
We ended up unable to finish either of our main dishes due to the oil and all the other stuff that made our dining very unpleasant and have to go elsewhere to buy more for our dinner. Another one that I'd never have to...

Malaysian food is known for its rich flavours bringing in a mix of herbs and spices that generates variety and breadth for the palate. Bringing these flavours across the ocean is a challenge due to the unique spices being utilized. However, John 3:16 Malaysian Delights offers an authentic experience with a wide variety of options on the menu to choose from. From simple appetizers, to individual meals, to larger portion share plates, they've got you covered whether you are stopping by for a quick bite, dining alone, or wanting a sit-down restaurant for a family meal.
Malaysian curry laksa is a signature that John 3:16 executes with finesse. The level of spiciness highlights the flavours adequately while the coconut curry blend carries forward a delightful aroma and a broth that you'll want to drink up along with the noodles.
Their Hainanese chicken is tender and juicy. You can order it as a half order, full order, or with rice as a separate meal. They also serve Beef Rendang, a dry curry mix with beef brisket for a balance of meat and fat, not dry or tough. What is most notable is that the owner and chef puts dedication into the art of food creation. You are not simply tasting a great recipe. You are enjoying art for your tastebuds.
This new location is Richmond has been long awaited and upon opening has already received many visitors. The decor is simple but clean and welcoming. This cozy space makes for a great environment for gatherings of family and friends over delicious Malaysian cuisine.
Needless to say, if you have not tried this place yet, you are missing out. I will definitely be back and will be bring family...
Read moreI've been craving Malaysian food for so long because there are almost no Malaysian places in the Seattle area that are decent priced, and I probably won't be going to Malaysia or Australia (where there's also a lot of good Malaysian restaurants) any time soon. The main thing I knew I had to have was the Char Koay Teow, one of my favorite Malaysian dishes. The one here was perfectly proportionate with the amount of noodles veggies, and proteins. No skimping going on here.
The roti canai was addicting, but I felt like there wasn't enough pancake or curry for the price. Of course after converting to USD, the price might seem a little better, but I feel like the roti canai was only enough for one person and barely 2 people.
We also ordered the Hainanese chicken rice, which confused me the most and is one of the main reasons this place isn't 5 stars. I'm used to Hainan chicken coming with ginger sauce on the side and no sauce on top. The chicken came covered in a sweet goopy sauce (that didn't taste bad), but people are supposed to enjoy the original taste of the chicken! There was also a side of what seemed to be chili sauce. I feel like they westernized this dish, but don't understand why. All the sauces they used are unnecessary except the ginger, which wasn't enough probably because of the other sauces they added. They should just keep it simple with the basics.
For drinks, I would recommend trying their coffees because Malaysians have delicious tasting ones like the candy kopiko. All the other drinks and desserts would be good, too, depending on how full you want to be and how much...
