I live within a five minute walk from this park and I find it very relaxing to go for a walk through the park at any hour of the day or night. Lately it has been virtually every evening or very early morning at about 3 or 4 in the morning when I wake up. I'll simply step out and meander on over and enter the park off of Westminster Hwy between the Ramada Inn and the Quality Inn. From there I have no set route, no plan per say so I simply wander around sticking to the hard or soft surface paths. It is so peaceful with not a single other soul around. At some point usually close to 9ne 9f the lakes or fountains I'll pick out a bench, sit and close my eyes for a few moments while opening my ears to the beautiful orchestra of nature's sounds and rhythms. Everything from water running in the streams or cascading do w the small but beautiful none the less waterfalls or from one of the fountains. Now if that alone doesn't put you in a trancelike state then add to it the breeze rustling through the tree tops, or an owl hooting off in the distance or the early morning risers chirping away, as if singing to the beat of nature's orchestra. I may at any moment be taken out of my trance as I feel a rabbit moving about my feet. I open my eyes and see a family of raccoons making their way past me a short distance away but not making a sound. I may sit there for a half hour, 45 minutes, an hour, or even longer. It's as if time is standing still and yet with each passing moment the sky 8s getting brighter as the sun is slowly making its way to a grand appearance and finally rises up over the horizon letting us all know that a new day has begun! Time has just slipped on by but it matters not one little bit simply because it has felt oh so very serene! Then the walkers and joggers start showing up and that moment is gone... Till tomorrow...
Read moreThe track is fantastic quality - sturdy but soft on the knees, well marked, and well-lit. The field is artificial turf. There are soccer nets on either side of the field.
The track is open 24hrs and is the only overnight lit track I've found in the lower mainland. The main lights turn off around 11:00-12:00pm but there is enough ambient light in the area to safely run/sprint on the track. I've worked out here at 3:00am with no difficulty. There are bleachers beside the track with concrete foundation which is good for running up and down.
Warning: the track freezes in certain places - primarily lane 1-2 on the southeast side. The frost is usually visible but don't run in lane 1 or 2 in really cold weather. I've ran on the track in 2020-early 2021 coldest days without a problem, but take extra care.
There are sand pits but they're covered. I'm not sure if they're available for training in the summer. The track is also right beside the gym/indoor pool of you'd like to go there.
As a side note, there are dozens of rabbits of multiple colours in the area. They're friendly and stay put when you're running so your don't have to worry about them darting in front of you. There are some benches under trees and small walking paths for people to sit and look at...
Read moreMy favourite park of ALL TIME. Every summer I basically go there everyday to play soccer with my friends. The field that is fenced off has a nice, soft artifical turf with 4 small nets and 2 big nets. The soccer field attached to the baseball field has 1 small soccer field with 2 small nets and a big soccer field with 2 big nets. The field attached to the baseball field has quite a lot of the black stuff in the artifical turf and the artifical grass is quite long but other than that it's great! The field within the track is quite hard because of the short cut artifical turf and the little to no amount of the black stuff in the artifical turf. The field can be used as a football or soccer field with 2 soccer nets. Just if your playing soccer or football you have to be careful of people walking on the track. Sometimes you might arrive just to play sports and every field is taken but you can wait by walking around the nice park and enjoying the views or you can go to Richmond Centre for a bit...
