For a Filipino restaurant ( this is a real restaurant where you are seated, given a menu and you order from the menu) This is not the same as those Filipino places where the food is in the food station like fast food mall stalls and you point to what you want and someone will serve you with little plate) No, Little Ongpin has quality prices, quality service. The place is not at all elegant. You go to Little Ongpin to eat. The prices are reasonable and they don't cut the quantity. One oval shaped plate of noodles could likely feed two to three people. Their Value Meal would be enough for the hungry. It comes with soup, spring rolls, rice and meat or fish. They cook the food fresh in their very busy kitchen. The social skills of staff and owners come with the quality of the food they serve. Parking is tricky depending on the day and hour. This place share their parking with other businesses in the area. You can order ahead of time and they will get it ready when it's time for you to pick up. The food would be hot and you can tell it's fresh. The owners seemed very pleasing. They work hard along with their servers. You ask for extra napkin... it's coming and with a smile. Ask them anything reasonable and with happy faces they'd oblige. This Filipino restaurant doesn't seem to have that notion of "get rich quick." The owners seemed relaxed, confident and has the ability to operate a successful restaurant. I heard they've been around since early 90's in the same place. Overall, this restaurant...
Read moreLittle Ongpin is a favourite restaurant find. When we crave for Filipino-Chinese food, we come here almost every time.
The restaurant is conveniently located near bus stops and you can find parking spaces as well. They are closed on Mondays - we found this the hard way.
The restaurant is clean and well maintained. The old menu on the wall is nostalgic but the interior reminds you of how restaurants in the Philippines are laid out. Simple, functional and intended for shared meals with family and or friends. They do hand out an updated menu for your review.
The food menu is fantastic. We have not had a dish that we consider a not so good meal. Some of our favourite dishes are: chicken Arrozcaldo, Prawns in Chili Sauce, Prawns with snow peas and quail eggs, sweet and sour fish, chicken skewers, and the rice topping with fish and black bean sauce. The garlic rice is a must as it goes with any dish you order.
The desserts are also delicious - order the Halo-halo and the leche plan. We like them as they are not too sweet and refreshing.
The services is polite, efficient, and friendly. They keep the tables clean and serve with smiles. The waiting times are not too bad about 15-20 minutes. We are happy that they have partnered with Door Dash for delivery.
Price-wise, the food menu is affordable and worth every penny. We plan on trying all the menu items every time we visit. This restaurant takes me back to home cooked meals like how my mom...
Read moreI am a Filipino Chinese who was raised near Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila. Growing up in this vibrant neighborhood, I developed a deep appreciation for both Filipino and Chinese cuisines. Little Ongpin has become a cherished haven for me, especially when I'm hit with homesickness and yearn for the flavors of authentic Filipino dishes.
The food at Little Ongpin goes beyond just satisfying my cravings – it's an exceptional experience. The quality of their offerings is truly noteworthy, and the prices are remarkably reasonable. The authenticity of the flavors takes me back to the bustling streets of Binondo.
Speaking of authenticity, one of the aspects I value the most is the chance to converse in my native tongue, Filipino. It's a heartwarming feeling to be able to share stories and connect with the staff in a familiar language.
When visiting, I've found that arriving early is a smart move, especially during peak hours, as parking can be a bit limited. Despite the slight difference in ingredients due to being in Canada, the flavors still manage to capture the essence of Filipino cuisine. For those of us who grew up with the tastes of Binondo, Little Ongpin is a taste of home...
