I believe this restaurant only opened up about 6 months ago (January 2024). It is tucked in a strip mall in Richmond, with inconspicuous exteriors that does not make it stand out.
However, the food here is AUTHENTIC and EXCELLENT. Of the many Shanghainese food places I've eaten in the Vancouver and Richmond area, this restaurant is one of the top.
The spicy pork soup noodle was interestingly not oily, but the pork bits were very flavourful and really blended well with the soup which was just right in terms of savory degree.
Service - could be improved, although everyone was very friendly and for a Chinese restaurant, one of the servers even came twice to ask how our food was, and in English to our surprise! There was a smile that you can see under the mask that every server wore, and they came without asking to refill water or tea throughout the meal. My only feedback for them is to manage their tables a bit better when it is peak dinner times - for example, two seats left of a larger, longer table in the middle of the restaurant could seat two people as long as the smaller party didn't mind, and the larger party was aware up front.
Price - great. Reasonable for the portion size.
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and I hope they maintain their performance even as they likely gain in popularity and traffic. The lack of a 200-item menu (exaggerating) speaks to the restaurant's focus on key dishes - local, Shanghainese fare without pretentiousness. I would certainly return to try...
Read moreRecently my family and I dined at this restaurant and experienced an absolutely appalling customer service. After finishing our meal, the manager forcibly demanded a tip of at least 10%, claiming it was “North American law” and that “servers live off tips.” She then verbally abused us—accusing us of being ill-mannered, “setting a terrible example for our child,” even calling us “rotten people,” and threatened, “You’re never welcome here again.” When we insisted on a refund of this coerced tip, they flatly refused.
In Canada, servers earn a guaranteed minimum wage—tipping is entirely voluntary and meant to reward good service. This establishment’s tactic of intimidation, verbal assault, and extortion is utterly unethical and intolerable. A clear warning to everyone: avoid this restaurant that bullies customers into tipping!
At the time, the restaurant owner used her arm to physically force us out, which constitutes a physical assault. We reported the incident to the police. The next day, officers arrived at the restaurant, issued a formal warning, documented the case, and requested access to the surveillance footage. The owner refused, claiming the cameras were not turned on. The police clearly stated that if a similar incident occurs again—such as forcibly demanding tips, verbally abusing customers, or using physical contact to remove them—there will be serious legal...

We ordered 3 dishes and one rice. Came out to be around ~$65 tip included.
First thing to address is that when ordering, you’re looking at the menu through your phone. There are images with almost every food item. A lot of items were marked as sold out, which isn’t the issue. The issue is that the food doesn’t match the picture on the menu. Which is deceiving especially when it came to the meat dish. The photo showed a dishful many little pieces of pork, but it was actually 6 bigger chunk with 3 eggs underneath. It was similar with the noodles as well, presentation of a lot of meat but noodles contained 95% noodles.
Flavour wise: The braised pork is flavourful but is a little bit too flavourful. I saw this brought up in other reviews as well. Needs a lot of rice to accompany it and it cost $2.50 per bowl 🙈
The wonton soup was ok 👍
The spicy pork noodles was toooo noodle heavy, would not recommend.
Service was good! They were very nice.
Overall it’s not bad but not awesome either. Willing to give them...
