I had a lovely lunch of Assorted Oden at Gyo-O recently. It was a simple meal, but Oden isn't something that I see often around here so I was very happy to be able to order it at Gyo-O. There's another restaurant in Richmond that's supposed to specialize in Oden, and I had tried it one time but found it quite disappointing. While there was a wide variety of Oden to choose from, we weren't very impressed with the food when it arrived at our table. Oden is meant to be a hot wintertime stew but the broth that was served with our oden was not at all hot. This Oden at Gyo-O was much better. The broth was hot as it should be, and the size of the food was impressive. The tofu and daikon were both massive! Such humungous chunks of tofu and daikon. I'd had Oden in Japan not too long ago, and the daikon there was also huge. This daikon at Gyo-O was quite comparable in size. Possibly slightly larger even. If I have a craving for Oden, I don't think I'll bother searching for any other place in Vancouver to have it. I'll come straight to Gyo-O again! My friend was with me and she ordered a Tendon bento box. She said the rice texture was a bit off, and ended up pouring soup over her rice to moisten it. The tendon though, according to her was very nicely crisped. Service:  Good Parking:  Plentiful and free Location: #2137 - 3779 Sexsmith Rd., Richmond, BC

Cool little spot for non conventional Japanese food. (that's a good thing) When I walked in, the first employee stared at me like a deer in headlights. It didn't matter though because I had a friend inside already seated. Our server however was excellent. Friendly and told us about the menu and had great descriptions of the food. The place is eatery style where you kind of just sit on a bench and grab your own tea or water. Chicken nanban was excellent. Decent portion to price ratio. The ikura sashimi don was not worth. See photo. $28 for that bowl with a few paper thin slices of salmon and a few scoops of ikura. The ikura was good. The rice was a soggy mess. For $28 I feel they could have made the salmon slices at least 2-3cm thick. (it was paper thin <1cm thick) I'd come again to try other items. I heard the udon was very good. That's probably what I will try next :)

despite having over half their menu dedicated to noodles, i coudlnt taste their dedication in their nabeyaki udon, as it clearly tasted store brought udon submeredg in a dilluted mirin and water solution... and to top it off, it came with some fried chicken that was bland and soaked in 100 year old burnt oil, making it unconsumable. it also came with two boring pcs of shrimp tempura 2/5 however, their cold udon with sashimi had tones of flavour that blended in well, which kinda saved their weak points 3.8/5 their garlic ramen (black ramen) was flavourless with non memorable noodles... even instant noodles were better than their noodles cuz at least they have flavour 1/5 but theres one thing and only one thing ill come back here for: their sashimi. while their hamachi was mid, their salmon was fatty, fragrant, and literally melted in ur mouth like butter 4/5 overall 3/5

I used to love this place. I almost got take out once-twice a week of my regular order of spicy salmon and tuna cold udon. It costs $12.85. If I'm getting 2 (maybe 2 for myself because I love it so much or for my sister) it would cost me $25. However today when I went to get my regular order of take out, I found out that they INCREASED THE PRICE BY 150%. So now it costs $18 for that one dish!!!! THIS IS INSANE! Who thought of this price increase?? They used to give more salmon/tuna pieces and then they decreased it. I didn't complain then. But now with this increase I don't know how I can afford to eat here anymore! I'm so livid and angry.

I used to get take out from here so much because it would make me feel better at the end of a hard week at work. But now I can't afford it because my one hour's wage isn't even enough to pay for my favourite dish!!!!! I used to joke that I could never leave Vancouver because I can only eat this dish from Gyo-o. But now with this INSANE PRICE INCREASE, this changes EVERYTHING!

I don't care how good this place is, that price increase does not justify it. If they had increase it to $15, fine. I will be more understanding. But this is a $5 increase from $12.85. This is 150%. I know whoever made this decision can do math because clearly they are just...
