This was, unfortunately, one of our least pleasant dining experiences, particularly for Asian cuisine, due to issues with the food, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. Please, read below:
Food (2/5): We ordered wonton soup, some other kind, see photo and wok broccoli with meat. The soups were a major disappointment, lacking the rich, traditional Asian broth flavors we expected. Instead, they tasted fatty and off, almost like leftover pot-washing liquid with an unpleasant aftertaste. The wontons were filled with low-quality minced meat, which didn’t help. The broccoli with meat was the only saving grace, decent enough to bump the food rating to a 2 instead of a 1, but it couldn’t redeem the meal overall.
Service, Interior & Cleanliness (2/5): The restaurant’s retro 60s-style furniture could have been charming, but the experience was ruined by a stale, musty smell that hung in the air, likely due to the lack of a modern ventilation system. Worse, the tables were sticky and visibly dirty, which made dining uncomfortable. While a vintage vibe can be fun, cleanliness is non-negotiable, and this place fell far short. The waitress was friendly, and our food arrived relatively quickly since we were the only customers. However, the unsanitary conditions and the heavy, stale air made it hard to enjoy the service, dragging the rating down to a 2.
Overall, this restaurant needs significant improvements in food quality, cleanliness, and air quality to be a place we’d consider returning to. It’s a shame, as the potential for a unique retro dining experience is there, but the execution was far...
Read moreI and my friends recently dined at Asia's Best Cuisine in St. John, New Brunswick, and unfortunately, our experience was less than stellar. Despite the restaurant's promising name, the taste of the food left much to be desired. It wasn't outright terrible, but it was merely okay—far from what one would expect from a place touting itself as the "best." Additionally, the food was super oily, which made it less enjoyable.
Moreover, the prices were quite steep. Considering the quality of the food, it felt overpriced. In fact, I've had comparable, if not better, Asian cuisine at various buffets around town for a fraction of the cost. Given the cost and the underwhelming flavors, we found it hard to justify the expense.
On a brighter note, the service at Asia's Best Cuisine was commendable. The cashier, server, and possibly the owner were attentive and diligent in following up with us throughout the meal. Their genuine efforts to ensure we had a pleasant dining experience were evident and much appreciated. While the food may not have lived up to expectations, the quality of service...
Read moreI revisited this restaurant nearly a year after my first visit. Back then, we really enjoyed the food and were excited to try it again — but wow, what a letdown this time.
We ordered the Hot and Sour Soup, the Korean-Style Prawn Fried Rice, and the Korean-Style Noodles with Beef and Vegetables.
Hot and Sour Soup – It was extremely oily and lacked flavor. It felt more like glass noodles swimming in chili oil, with a few bits of tofu and bok choy tossed in.
Korean-Style Prawn Fried Rice – This was essentially plain rice with a few peas and prawns scattered on top. There was nothing remotely Korean about it. Ironically, it was the most tolerable dish of the three.
Korean-Style Beef Noodles – Also underwhelming. We ended up packing it to go because the meal overall was such a disappointment.
Service: I asked for a takeout container and a paper bag to carry the soupy noodles home. They gave me a clamshell box and refused a paper bag, claiming those were only for takeout orders. I was genuinely baffled by that logic.
Safe to say, we won’t be...
