Montana’s BBQ & Bar — Restaurant in Saint John

My family went to Montana’s for takeout. I had ribs with side of fires and a side of wings for the whole family. The wait was atrocious, waited almost 45 mins just to get it and the kitchen staff seemed as if they were unprepared for any order. I should have known then and there what was to come.

Upon getting my food I was even more disappointed. The ribs were average not really any complaints there. There was 2 side orders of fries (that came with the 2 orders of ribs we got) there was definitely not 2 orders of fries in the container, there may have been one, if that. Disappointing but I was willing to look past it, but then there’s the wings.

Oh boy if my we had known the horror that they would cause for the next while, we would have thrown them out immediately. They tasted fine, nothing out of the ordinary, although some of them were pinker than usual, I figured maybe it was a veiny part or something but I was severely wrong. I ate the food at around 5pm and everything was ok for a while, but a few hours later my stomach started to stomach hurt so bad it caused me to be lying on the bathroom floor waiting to vomit for 6 hours. When I finally did vomit at around 5:30am, I knew for sure the chicken wings were raw as there was undigested raw chicken meat in my vomit. I should say that it takes a hell of a lot to make me vomit and I do it maybe once a year at most, and these chicken wings made me do it very early in the year.

We as a family used to love Montana’s, the food and service was great, but ever since they were taken over by a new owner, the food has been garbage and until they fix their food we won’t be...

I would like to preface my review by saying I do not as a rule, issue negative reviews, but this visit was such a waste of time and money I really needed to put this out there. We had a reservation for 5pm and it was a birthday celebration (I told the hostess who took my reservation...wrong move???) There was no acknowledgement at any time of a birthday, yet during our time there 2 other tables were celebrated. There were 6 of us and the bill was just shy of $200. No alcohol and two of us simply had salads, one had the wing appetizer, the other three had a main each. The person who had ribs said they were delicious but they arrived cold (BTW we waited over an hour for our meal and the place was NOT busy at all) The Pecan, apple salad with chicken had a few greens, one pecan, two very thin slices of apple, two very thin slices of red pepper and about 5 cranberries. The chicken breast was moist but it was cold, I was expecting the chicken to be hot...oh well. The chicken wings were breaded (which is not mentioned in the description... I know,...I should have asked...) and they were not good. Our server actually brought a lemonade that was mostly water, apparently the machine ran out half way through the pour and he didn't even notice. As well, our server did not even ask if we wanted anything for dessert but simply asked who was taking the bill. 3 of our 6 at the table had a mediocre experience, the other 3 of us went away very disappointed. To sum it up, food=1/10, Service= 3/10, Value= 1/10. Very disappointed, I would definitely not recommend this spot and it put quite a damper on the birthday...

I met my parents there for supper as it was a busy day for them and they wanted to relax and have a good meal, and that we did!! We ordered a couple of different appetizers, the new beef antojitos which are DELICIOUS, and the pull-apart bread which was really good. The sauce on the pull-apart is a little rich, but still tasty and a good choice. For their meals my parents each had ribs which were done perfectly. Myself I had the Firecracker burger which was pretty good. I will say that a suggestion would be to maybe make a switch to freshly made burger patties instead of premade frozen ones, but I do get why a restaurant would use them, but I just think that freshly made patties would make a world of difference for your burgers. I ordered the gravy with my fries, which I have never had there before and I have to say your gravy is pretty good. I'll definitely be adding it to future orders. Our server Chantel did a really great job of waiting our table and was super friendly and cheerful and did a nice job in helping my parents in their choice for their meals and keeping our drinks topped up. Give that girl a raise! =) I did have a little fun teasing one of the other servers a bit when we heard some of the servers doing that birthday cheer thing for someone elsewhere in the restaurant, and I noticed she had hung back a bit to do something else, and also so that she didn't have to do the cheer thing. She laughed knowing she'd been busted, but it was all in fun, lol =) We'll definitely...
