I've been wanting to check out this restaurant for some time. I was in Saskatoon last week for a trade show and they were able to accommodate my two groups of six on Wednesday evening for dinner. It was perfect that they were able to place outer two table beside each other. Right from the moment we walked in, I knew we picked the right spot. Buo to the second floor, drin orders done, appetizers ordered and deciding on mains. The service was fantastic! They answered questions and helped with selections. The appetizers arrived and were devoured. Best calamari and the mozzarella sticks are to die for. Prior to mains arriving we ordered some wine, both bottles were excellent recommendations. Everyone totally enjoyed their mains. No room for dessert but we did have an after dinner drink. Service from start to finish, was topnotch. On the way out we popped up to the third floor to check out the patio. I beed to go back sooner or later. One of my coworkers commented on the walk back to out hotel that he wants to go back and try everything on the menu. I don't think he was aline with...
Read moreThree stars for a perfectly average restaurant. Nothing was wrong, but nothing made this an exceptional five star meal either. All in all Bar Stella feels uninspired. Yes, Italian, but they’re not a legacy like Taverna and they’re not at the front of the food scene like Primal. It was unfussy, I guess.
My only true complaint is that the music was too loud for the size of the restaurant and there being no soft surfaces to dampen the noise. This made conversation hard, even with our server.
The cocktails were good. The Hugo was a nice take on a mojito. Our server favoured efficiency over personality.
The food came out quickly and was hot. It all tasted like something I could make at home by buying the “good” pasta and the “good” sauce at the store. The chicken Parmesan doesn’t come with a side. When our server offered us pepper our table found it funny that it was just a shaker instead of her grinding it. No hate to the shaker, but just leave one on the table, why offer.
Overall it was disappointing, we showed up excited to try it, but likely won’t be back if I need...
Read moreManagement (I assume) told us we had 15 minutes to eat our tiramisu and cannolis because our table was reserved. We had only been there an hour and ten minutes and had gotten drinks, appetizers and multiple entrees which all took a decent amount of time to get to the table. I think that if you’re paying that much for your meal, you should be able to enjoy your dessert without being rushed. After the manager told us we had 15 minutes she also walked by our table and smiled at us 1 or 2 times (before that 15 mins was up by the way) I guess to see if we were finished. I understand there are reservations but it’s probably a good idea to leave a bit more space between reservations so that your customers actually get a chance to enjoy the meal they payed a lot for. Other than that the food was okay but the portions were small especially for the price. Overall it was kind of an awkward experience. Definitely would not recommend if you’re wanting to get dessert or socialize with your table lol. Also there was so much cocoa powder on the tiramisu that it...
