Staff - generally concerned with talking to their coworkers. Talking to you (the customer) seems inconvenient and annoying. The only good service received was from the gentleman who takes and rips your ticket. Concession - As usual for movie places, ridiculously overpriced. Tastes fine, but nothing to raise eyebrows over. Lobby Area - Spacious. Looks really nice. No bathrooms in this area which is kind of annoying for those who want to pee and buy popcorn before the movie. Bathrooms (female) - Lots of stalls, but is very messy with lots of dirty toilets and toilet paper on floors everywhere. Theatre Room - Comfy seats, standard layout. The movie experience is pretty good although if there are disruptive customers, nothing is done about it. Parking lot - MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT! I know lots of you are thinking that there is no big deal about the parking lot, but this parking lot is not paved, bumpy, not under supervision, and you have to pay. This parking lot has been this way for years with no visible intention of Galaxy ever planning to pave it. I wouldn't mind paying if it was a nice parking lot where there was at least one security guard hanging out, but this parking lot quality is what I would expect if I was going to some event out of the city, not in the middle of downtown. On top of that, there were only two places that you could pay for parking, both with a line of about 15 people each (20-30 minute wait time). If you are going to a movie, you should show up at least 30 minutes in advance just to stand in line to pay for a terrible parking lot, even before you buy your movie ticket or concession. Perhaps the lines aren't this bad all of the time, but for evenings and weekends, it is extremely inconvenient. My advice to you: Spend your money elsewhere. I'd rather take the extra time that I would spend waiting and money for parking to drive across town to ANY other theatre in town. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update November 2012: As a response to Mr. Mercredi, apparently you do not know what a "review" is. The reason why Galaxy Cinemas has bad reviews is because it has not been an enjoyable experience by myself or the other reviewers. You provide misleading information by saying that everything there is "excellent" but have not said anything to back up your claims. 1. First of all, you agreed with my review by saying "so what they might have bad parking, impatient and poor customer service." 2. I have worked in the food industry as well. Being busy is no excuse for being inconsiderate. 3. In terms of parking, it is way better anywhere else, including other places downtown. At least if I was parking somewhere else downtown, I wouldn't have to wait in line forever and I would get a paved spot where people are walking by frequently enough that I wouldn't be too concerned about break-ins. This isn't the case at Galaxy. 4. This has nothing to do with social class. I don't even know why you'd bring it up. In general, my opinion still stands. The Galaxy Cinemas "looks nice" but aside from that, everything else provided is not worth the time and cash...
Read moreDONT GO HERE: I just moved to saskatoon in april and i've now been to this theatre three times. Twice in Ultra AVX and once in VIP.
Every single experience has been bad, the only reason i went again is because this was the only theatre playing SUPERMAN on Thursday Preview.
Firstly, Ultra AVX: This is the first cineplex I've been to that charges for Ultra AVX but is definitely not using a larger screen, Dolby ATMOS or a higher quality projector. it's a waste of money. The D-box seats are the worst D-Box seats ive ever sat in. Movement programming is off by a noticeable margin for both Thunderbolts* and SUPERMAN. Thunderbolts* was in 3D which everyone in the audience wouldn't have remembered if I hadn't told the staff that it was in 3D and we needed the glasses to properly watch the movie (they didnt have them infront of the theatre door by the time the "Put your 3D glasses on" arrived)
Last night I saw SUPERMAN which has an opening text crawl and subtitles in the movie, both are cut off by the screens "curtains" Which tells me this theatre was showing an IMAX version of the movie on a screen that is too small to show it. The volume was horribly mixed by the theatre, not the movie. too loud in some parts and too quiet and muddled in others. As someone who has double deficit dyslexia, Text and subtitles are ALREADY frustrating for me when watching a movie, but for half of some of the text to be cut off? its a joke. all this isnt even mentioning the delay on the D-Box seats that are quite expensive. I've been to every single Marvel & DC movie in a dbox seat since they released and I have never experienced such a careless and unmaintained experience at Regina Cineplex or Victoria, BC Cineplex.
VIP: this is only kind of fun if you don't mind servers running around the theatre the entire duration of the movie. Also the seats kind of recline but only as far as your upper body weight will allow, otherwise your using the force of a thousand suns to push them backwards. theres no foot rest either. Overall an incredibly uncomfortable seat to sit in. Also just wildly expensive. The only reason to use this portion of the theatre would be to see a movie kids would want to see when you dont want kids to be around. Especially a movie thats been heavily joked about online, like a Minecraft or a Minions movie.
The staff here is super kind tho, which is why it gets two stars...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars I gladly would. I think people in Saskatoon like this theatre because there arenât many theatres in town and simply because this is a modicum nicer than the main theatre (attached to it) they think itâs great. I personally have rarely had great experiences here since it opened (been there at least twenty times since it opened) and after last weekend I wonder if I will ever bother going back. The âseat serviceâ was terrible. My husband ordered a popcorn and it arrived cold with soggy, wet, cold topping. He asked for another and got the exact same thing. I decided to get a drink during the show and there was nobody at the concession. I stood there for a really long time and was anxious about missing so much of the show so I gave up after close to ten minutes. When we were leaving the show there was still nobody at the concession because we stopped there to mention the popcorn issue to them - ours was still untouched and it was super expensive!! Our food bill for seat service was 45.00 for popcorn, coke, 6 oz wine and a perogie appetizer. We were really unhappy because all the food was cold and I got no sour cream with my appetizer but a TON of onions. We waited again at the concession (we could hear loud taking and laughing from the back) but again we gave up. Around the corner on the way out, five employees were just standing around visiting and laughing and generally goofing around. âHave a great night!â They cheerfully cried as we left. Ugh. The bathrooms needed attention, there were SO MANY TRAILERS AND ADS BEFORE THE SHOW and honestly for some reason at this theatre people never stop talking. Not even sure if itâs worth going to the movies in Saskatoon anymore... I guess if you can accept mediocre service and you really want to see a show - thatâs...
