I called the hotel directly to book for one night with a late check out as we would not be arriving till midnight. The man who took my booking said that the late check out would not be a problem, and he would put it in the notes for the person who does my check-in. I was quoted a total of 193+tax. When I arrived at the hotel, obviously tired and exhausted from an 12 hour drive, the security person did nothing but stare at me through the locked front door. After some time, they finally came to the door to open it so I could check in. It's not the greatest area to be standing outside at midnight. Anyway, once we checked in, everything seemed fine until it came time to take my payment. The guy at the front desk wanted $455 and change, i was over tired and had to do a double take when i inserted my credit card because not once did he tell me the price. When I told him I was quoted $193, he said there is a $50 room charge he already told me about. I said that I understood the $50 deposit, but 193+50 does not equal $455. He said sorry about that but he can not change the price. When I told him I would not be paying that he put his finger up to "shush" me. After 5-10 minutes he said it's ready now and the price was corrected. While I was waiting for him to correct the price I was reading over the email confirmation and noticed there is a $20 parking fee I was not told about on the phone or in the lobby. Once everything corrected I asked him about parking and was told it was $30 a night. I continued to tell him I am reading the confirmation email and it states $20. He then said he did say $20 and I mis heard him which I know is not the case. Everything about this entire process seems sketchy.
Now let's move on to the room. Paid for the "river view" but the view it's self was a tiny portion between 2 buildings. Not worth the extra charge. The shower has a glass backing that leads into the room. The glass is covered with a film design but you could see through a peep hole that had obviously been scratched through by a previous guest. The shower leaks EVERYWHERE. The entire bathroom floor is soaking wet everytime you have a shower. There is no microwave so don't count on warming up food. We had multiple phone calls and knocks at the door even after we had confirmed our late check out.

Read moreI was surprised by our recent stay at the Alt Hotel. I knew it's reputation was very positive so I booked a King bed room for my husband and I with some expectations as an experienced hotel stayer. I can't say I was overly impressed. Here were the positives: Great Service! Special shout out to Luis at the front desk who was fantastic to deal with at check in and check out. He did everything possible to maximize our stay. : beautiful lounge! With interesting and pleasant selections. : clean room! Can definitely see a strong effort made to ensure cleanliness. (Small tip-clean the air vent along the bathroom door frame) : bed was comfortable and linens were decent : TV in the room was great and super easy to cast anything to watch from your phone. : great location! Lots of options. Centre of city right across from theaters, art gallery and restaurants. Okay so now the negatives that surprised me: the parkade is not well marked : the elevators were incredibly slow! We waited at the parkade elevator for at least 15 minutes to the point where we thought maybe we were at the wrong elevator because again there is no Welcome or signage of any kind in the parkade elevator foyer. : we paid 20 bucks for the parkade and ended up parking outside all night after dinner because there was no room left in the parkade. Oh and no way to turn around once at the bottom of the parkade or a warning that the parkade is full before you go in. Not the greatest when it is -32 outside. (Again, thanks Luis who refunded the parking fee upon check out when I mentioned this) : the lighting in the room is awful!!! It is not mellow or comfortable. It is different colored spotlights that work all together or not at all basically. Oh and you must have a room key inserted by the door to get any power in the room. Not terrible and environmentally but maybe make sure to warn your guests at check in. : room is smaller than you expect and far more raw, industrial, minimalistic style than the pictures shown on line. Not bad depending on your style but not what I expected. Again, we enjoyed our night in Saskatoon overall but I won't necessarily be going out of my way to stay here again...
Read moreSo I have a lot of bad things to say about this hotel and not many good things. First off when you arrive there is no drive way area to park while you go inside to check-in. You have to park several blocks away by the lighthouse, which is extremely sketchy at the best of times, and walk back to the hotel. Then there is the problem of overnight parking. We arrived at 8pm and there underground parking space was already full so, because there is absolutely noy enough parking spaces around the hotel, have to park by the lighthouse and move my car closer after midnight when some of the nightlife people have left the area. It makes something that should be carefree very exhausting. So once you get your keys and head up to your room you will have a difficult time to find basic information about how to do things like run the coffee maker, and find a list of channels for the tv. Its behind the tv btw. How hard is it to put basic instructions about connecting to wifi and basics about the room via qr code or even a piece of paper. Even the phone menu is entire in French so good luck receiving your messages. Next I tried to take a shower but the way they built the floor half of the shower water leaves the shower and completely cover the bathroom floor. I ended up having to build a dam out.of used towel to try and stop this from happening.
When I tried to make coffee the next day both cream canisters were expired and turning into curds. Absolutely disgusting.
Honestly, of the last 10 or so hotels this is the worst by far. As a brand new hotel in the city I should be getting a free bottle of water, not having to pay $4 for it, there shouldn't be mold in the shower and I should be able to adjust the direction of the air conditioner away from directly at the bed. I'm just really disappointed because when I stayed at the Germain in Calgary it was one of the best...
