Working in the industry I do, I have always had guests, employees stay at the Sheraton Downtown Saskatoon. When my daughter told me that all she wanted for her 12 bday was to stay there, I thought great, somewhere I know and like. I was wrong, in getting there I had the wrong requested room, got moved. I had called previous to ask if I had three guests come swimming if there would be a charge the response was "no, not at all Ms. Delgado, usually it's about an extra 5 per kid, but you are fine" We get to the pool and the very haughty manager tells me that there is no food allowed, I apologized and explained I had called and asked prior to coming and she responded with "well I guess so" and walked away. Then she comes back and said I will have to charge you for the three extra kids you have here. Again I went to explain that I had called and asked before I came and instead of her saying, oh I'm sorry I will have to talk to someone, her response was "well I will still have to charge you, but I will try and give you a deal" to say the least I was very disappointed in her responses and the way she dealt with the customer. I went to pay for the bill prior to leaving the pool and no discount was given, and to charge 15 for a child is outrageous! I once again went to explain that the person we had JUST spoken to had said we would get 50% off and the new girls response was well I have to charge you what she said, and this is what she said. disappointment and a bit of anger is how I would describe my experience at the pool. At last minute one of the girls came back and said she talked to a different manager and she could at least take a kid off and that's the deal they could give me. I went on to the restaurant and the server was amazing, ordered a "special" drink for my daughter - bad sour juice, took 20 minutes for the next drink ( a milkshake) to come out.. honestly by that point I didn't even have the energy to say anything, paid and left.
The only recognition I'd like to make, was the very pleasant person at the front that once she asked me how my stay was at check out and I gave her the readers digest version, she was quick to delete the pool and restaurant bills, which were greatly appreciated. Next time, I will go to Lakewood pool and save my 10,000 points to stay there, when I have a perfectly, lovely home and will definitely think twice before I suggest to other to use the Sheraton - for my work and meetings. If there is miscommunication between departments, the training should be put in place that if a customer goes on to explain why there was food and three extra children that as a "customer service" you should try your best to accommodate the guest and take the discussion internally not how it...
Read moreOur daughter was getting married here and our families had a block of rooms booked. Ourselves we stayed two nights here near the end of August, a Friday and a Saturday. The check in was great the front desk was very friendly, courteous and helpful. The room was a bit tight but well appointed. Make sure you ask for a room with a river view as we did not and were sorry that we didn't. The room was very clean and well organized with a good shower that is missing in most hotels. The bed was comfortable and the floor was quite, without noisy traffic. The following day the chambermaids were very accommodating as there was a lot of traffic between the families. I went down to the lobby and although I new the hotel was pet friendly we left our Siberian Shepard at the kennel. I asked at the front desk if it was allowed to come in as it is over 100 pounds (a well trained, quiet and disciplined 100 lbs.) and they said yes. Very nice for taking puppy out for several walks during the day. The dog even felt like it was at home even tough we took it out of hotel for the evening and night. The elevators were acting up and we had to use the stairs between floors many times and to the parking garage but that was good for the heart and the reason I took off one star. But this was hard to do as there is more to the story. The wedding reception was catered by the hotel in the Top Of The Inn with its great view of the river and downtown. The meal was overwhelming. We have had a lot for small town great meals at weddings, fall suppers and the like but the supper that was put on was as good or better than at the five star resort in Cuba we go to the Paradisus Rio de Oro. And that says something for the quality as we find generally Canadian service and quality lacking (except at the Sheraton). The following morning we went for breakfast at the restaurant and the view, the service and food we great. The price was agreeable for the quality and good value for the dollar. There was a mix up on the reservation side as we had an extra room booked in my name and charged to my credit card. The hotel recorded it as a no show, but the second room I had booked in my name was misspelled and when I never got a confirmation booking I re booked. The misspelled name was charged to my card. But Justin at customer service got everything straighten out without delay. Good work on his part finding out the mistake a little C.S.I on his part. Also I cannot remember other family members and anything bad to say about the rooms they had, the service, amenities and the wedding were all done well. So if any fellow miners from Procon or Mosaic need a place to hang their hats this is the place. Would I recommend this to...
Read moreThe staff were great! We recently had to take our dog to the Vet college and this hotel was in a great location for that! Quick to get there, nice walking trails across the street and thankfully they do accept some larger breed dogs!!
We were happy we chose the flexible rate option since after going to the vet, surgery wasn't the best option and they couldn't get us in for radiation until the following week. So we were able to cancel the rest of our stay and rebook for the following week. The front desk staff was quick to offer his best wishes for our return to the vet.
The next week we checked in and were pleased that they were able to accommodate our request for the same room we had previously. The location was great for being able to get our dog out to the bathroom quickly (she never has accidents, but didn't know how the sedation and radiation would react to her). They even had a little doggy package up in the room ( it was offered the first visit but we declined) it had a couple bowls, bed and baggies. The other thing in the room was a note from the staff, signed by different member's wishing us the best of luck with our dogs appointments. It meant a lot. The little plate of fruit and cheese was much appreciated after a long day of driving as well.
The doorman/valet was always pleasant, even the parking lot attendant who would see us leave every morning to drop her off, then go back later to pick her up, stopped us and asked how our dog was doing and said some kind words.
I could say that sure the TV could have been a bit bigger, having a guide for what's on would be great without having to pay for it, I WISH that the Starbucks had Venti size of my frappuccino, but I LOVED the fact they had one at all. My room service pizza was great, breakfast omelette was great, and it's within walking distance to many other restaurants if you prefer.
I know this review is long, and it mostly just talks about the people at the hotel, but our dog means the world to us and the staff made this tough time a little brighter, which is why the title is Staff make the difference. Truly caring staff can be hard to come by. The ones that do a little extra, even though it's more work for them, just to make your stay a little better. Their value is unmeasurable, so keep...
