The Syrian Table:
In the heart of Sault Ste. Marie lies a humble yet extraordinary food stall known as The Syrian Table—a culinary gem that surpassed every expectation I had for street food. My adventure began on an unseasonably chilly day when, driven by the aromas of sizzling spices, I stumbled upon this delectable haven.
The Syrian Table offered an unparalleled dining experience. I ordered a beef shawarma wrap, an irresistible classic lovingly enveloped in warm, freshly baked pita. As the vibrant flavors began to intermingle, the stall owner, a kind and thoughtful soul, extended his hospitality further, offering me a complimentary cup of Daal lentil soup. This gesture was not only a testament to the warmth and generosity of the folks at The Syrian Table but an absolute necessity on that blustery day.
The soup, a fragrant elixir of spices and tender lentils, wrapped me in warmth and comfort, preparing me for the long drive ahead to Thunder Bay. In a stroke of culinary genius, I decided to pour the delectable lentil soup over my beef shawarma, creating a fusion of flavors that danced harmoniously on the palate. Each bite of the shawarma was bursting with robust, savory beef, nestled amidst fresh, crisp vegetables, all enhanced by the rich, aromatic lentil soup.
The experience was a revelation to the senses, with the warmth of the soup soaking into the shawarma, creating a delectable, almost exotic, concoction that elevated this street food to new gastronomic heights. It was an unforgettable moment of culinary delight, one that etched itself into my memory as a true highlight of my journey.
As I savored this unique and mouth-watering meal, prepared by hands that truly understand the art of cooking with love and skill, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude. The Syrian Table delivered not just food, but an experience, rich with culture and warmth, transforming an otherwise ordinary day into a remarkable tale of savory adventure.
The cozy, welcoming ambiance and the heartfelt generosity of the people made it an unforgettable pitstop. The lovely blend of Middle Eastern hospitality and culinary prowess made me appreciate street food like never before. Whether you're traveling through Sault Ste. Marie or just a lover of incredible food, a visit to The Syrian Table is an absolute must. Your taste buds will thank you.
In the end, The Syrian Table isn't just a food stall; it's a testament to the power of food to comfort and connect, bringing warmth to the coldest of days and joy to the longest of journeys.

Tucked just outside the Soo Market, The Syrian Table may look like a simple food truck, but it delivers a culinary experience that rivals the best restaurants in town — and does it all outdoors, with heart.
We're vegan, so we had falafel: perfectly crispy, piping hot, and spiced with authentic Syrian flair. Easily the best falafel in Sault Ste. Marie — and honestly, one of the best I’ve had anywhere. Each wrap is packed with fresh parsley, pickled parsnips, juicy tomatoes, crunchy veggies, and a choice of flavourful dressings. It’s a handcrafted, flavour-packed meal worth every bite — and two falafel wraps came to around $30, which feels more than fair for the freshness and quality.
The fries? Also exceptional — golden, crispy, and dusted with Syrian spices.
The menu is refreshingly vegan-friendly — just ask to skip the yogurt sauce — and everything is made fresh to order, so expect a longer wait than what you are used to.
It’s not fast food — it’s real food, made fresh. The extra wait? Totally worth it.
What truly sets this place apart are the people behind it. Alaa, with his iconic Salvador Dalí mustache and infectious smile, and Bassam, who radiates kindness, made our first visit feel like a special occasion. They offered us free drinks as a welcome, and when fries were accidentally left off the bill, they insisted we not worry about it. That level of genuine hospitality is rare — and deeply appreciated.
The setting is open-air and easygoing, right next to a skate park with plenty of picnic tables. We visited on the first warm Saturday of the season — quiet and peaceful, though you can imagine it getting lively during peak Soo Market hours. Parking was simple, and if the nearby washrooms happen to be closed, well — there’s always a Tim Hortons close by.
Open daily until 6pm (closed Sundays and Mondays), The Syrian Table is a hidden gem you’ll be glad you discovered — just don’t be surprised when you’re already planning...
Read moreI'll be the first to admit I know nothing about Syrian food, or food from the Middle East as a whole, but I'm pretty much willing to try anything when it's put in fusion burrito form.
Holy hell am I glad I did!
The smell in the air coming from this converted seacan hits you from across the parking lot, and draws you right in.
I had thier chicken shawarma burrito, and while the fillings like pickles, garlic yogurt sauce and pomegranate syrup may seem unconventional, they work so damn well together with the chicken and rice.
This is likely the best thing I've eaten locally in a very long time!
Go here, support this guy, he's super nice.

The owner dropped the comment that he hopes I try something else, so I did.
Chicken and Beef mix over rice!
So much going on here, so many different flavors, ingredients, textures, etc.
He doesn't skimp on the portion size either, you'll have enough left over for lunch! If you're a fan of good food, order...
