Gene's Restaurant — Restaurant in Stratford

My wife and I ate there tonight, dining in. The restaurant wasn't full and we were told to help ourselves to a clean table. We waited 5-10 minutes before grabbing a waitress walking by to get a menu while others seated after us were being served. Things went downhill from there. The waitress was, I expect, inexperienced, poorly trained and generally inattentive.

My water glass, brought before ordering, was quickly drained and never refilled the rest of the dinner.

We asked for tea with our meal and were given tea pots with lukewarm water. We had to wait to get them replaced with hot water for the tea.

She brought out our egg roll and spring roll, but again, we had to wait 5 minutes for any plum sauce. My spring roll was down to the last bite before the sauce arrived. The spring roll was oily but hot.

The main course came out with the chicken chow mein and sweet and sour pork being hot and fresh while the fried rice seemed like it had been sitting for a while. The rice was barely warm.

The restaurant was not super busy so there was no excuse for the poor service. The food was edible but not enjoyable.

The restaurant is not what it once was and dining out is too expensive these days to be patronizing restaurants of...

Food was okay but service was not. Waited about an hour and thirty minutes for our food, and some others around us were also waiting for a long time. Another group with the same number of people came in about 20 minutes after us and received their food about a half hour before we did for whatever reason. Had to flag down the waitress to pay since she rarely came by and didn’t provide any updates about why it was taking a long time to get the food. There were some others in there that looked annoyed and ready to leave because it was taking so long. We didn’t have anywhere to be so we didn’t mind waiting too much but be aware that it could take an extra hour beyond what you’d normally spend at a restaurant because of the wait. They do a lot of take out orders too so that slows down the time it takes to get your food if you dine in. Food was okay, but we won’t be back just because of the wait time...

Third time getting screwed over ordering take out. First ...everytime I order and get told a time to pick up ,still have to wait 20-25 mins as they start it when I arrive. The portions are half size compared to what it used to be. Now everything smaller containers and not filled to capacity!!! This time I ordered 2 (paid for)wonton... only to get 1 call them and say nothing about fixing order just that they credited me for next time??!!?? So someone doesn't get lunch at work now.... Owners have always been great... the old lady taking orders not so much!!!
