You know, I've been writing Google reviews for a while now and all I can say is that this is by far going to be the most thought-provoking, yet also the most enjoyable review that I will write. Steve's Poké is beyond phenomenal and stellar that I don't even know where to begin. But here goes.
First of all, it's a 15 minute drive from my house. Living in the Delta/Surrey area, I can honestly say that while this city offers some exceptional Indian restaurants, there's little to choose from beyond that (pizza & fast food). So I really do not exaggerate when I say that Steve's Poké Bar smack in the middle of Surrey is a breath of fresh air. The food is exemplary, let's get that right, pretty much trumping all the Poké places I've been to in downtown Vancouver. And it shows. I mean, this place won an award for having the #1 Poké and I can definitely taste why. The staff are generous with their scoops, even pausing to ask if the rice base and toppings are enough or if they should add more. Don't even get me started with the fish. As fresh and tasty as if it had been caught mere minutes before serving.
Secondly, the ambiance of Steve's Poké just blew me away. Any restaurant can nail food, but it is truly a thing of beauty when delicious food is being eaten in a bright, cozy atmosphere. The colours are perfect, the framed quotes and fishheads intriguing, and the friendly and helpful staff giving you all the more reason to just fall in love with the place. They topped it off with some great music (I sang to every song they played) and as a result, you get a really nice blend of vibrant food, tunes, and a warm piece of Hawaii that all come together in perfect harmony. The owner and staff at Steve's Poké have really made the restaurant a place of paradise. Did I mention parking was free?
There you have it. My wife and I have truly fallen in love with Steve's Poké and we will be regulars from here on out, returning again and again for a piece of heaven on earth. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank...
Read moreThe day is finally here! Guildford officially has a Poké restaurant! After weeks of calling, and months of moaning about the need, North Surrey has a bona fide Poké option in Steve's Poke Bar! Today was the soft opening and I am happy to say that Steve's is a wonderful addition to the North Surrey food landscape! We stopped to eat dinner here and tried both the California dreamin' and Toona spicy signature bowls. Signature bowls are priced reasonably at around 14$ for 2 scoops of 'poke' (read scallop, salmon, or Tuna for your proteins with their respective spicy versions) along with a scoop of crab and all the free toppings your heart can desire! Premium toppings such as avocado, tobiko, or masago, and mango are reasonably priced (and some come included with the signature bowls!) Portion size is quite good for the price, and I was very pleased with how fresh all the ingredients were! The spice really came through on the spicy option, and the free kimchi topping was a great option. Unfortunately for bases you are limited to white rice, quinoa, or mixed greens (no brown rice at the moment) but the bases were delicious and the quality of the rice was excellent! As an interesting twist you add your own Poké sauce to your bowl at the end and can choose from shoyu, ponzu, spicy mayo, and sesame oil. Adding your own sauce is a great touch and we added them all! Altogether I was very pleased with my experience at Steve's. As this was the soft opening there will likely be some glitches along the way but I think if the staff keep up the good work and introduce new and interesting options moving forward this review could easily be bumped up to 5 stars in the future as we see how Steve's grows in the community. Pictures will be coming soon, as I think that Steve's will become part of the regular rotation for a dinner or lunch when we are in the area! Do yourself a favour and stop by North Surrey's first Poké bar! (P.s. 5$ poke bowls for the grand opening on Saturday May 26th...
Read moreI thought I've done a review for this plce before because how could I not? But Google maps is telling me otherwise. I've been here a few times now and the quality of the food is top shelf. The options are fresh and work perfectly together no matter the combination. I don't perfer raw fish so I opt for a tofu and avocado mix. You can also select scallops, salmon or tuna (all raw) if that's your jam. 3 bases are available romaine, quinoa or rice to start the bowl off. I personally mix rice and quinoa, try it, you will love and add the toppings to that. The only thing which bothered me this time around was the change of bowl. They used to be a deep plastic (yes, I know) which held the large portion (one bowl would due 2 meals in my case) perfectly. The bar has now moved to what seems like a more environmentally friendly take away container. However, its quite shallow and you end up having to squeeze all your food in if you are taking away. These bowels also seem smaller reducing the overall value. Having said all that I'd 100% return, the food is excellant. Finally, if you pay on a card be prepared to tip. These bowls are created like Subway sandwiches along a line and at the end I'm presented with what appears to be forced tip on the debit/credit machine. You can of course 'choose' other on the pin pad but that selection is not immediately noticeable and now you're standing there holding up the lunch line. I'm not against tipping and I left the 2 girl's working today one. However, I want to decide if I want to tip. It should be seperate button allowing for an easy decision on the customers part not mandatory until you figure out how to exit...
