I recently visited the McDonald’s in Thompson, Manitoba, and it was one of the worst fast food experiences I’ve ever had. The female manager during the day is unprofessional, argumentative, and rude. The issue began when I asked for McChicken sauce and was told it would cost $0.70. I was ready to pay but decided to clarify why this location charges for it when others, like many in Winnipeg, do not. Her response? “It’s McDonald’s policy.” When I pressed further, pointing out that some locations in Winnipeg don’t follow this so-called policy, she became defensive and dismissive.
I decided to skip the sauce and requested ketchup instead. That’s when things got even more ridiculous. She handed me about 20 ketchup packets when I only needed a few. When I politely pointed out how excessive this was and suggested returning them in exchange for the sauce, she became visibly annoyed, snapped that she “didn’t have time for this,” and angrily tossed the sauce onto the counter. Completely unacceptable behavior for something that could’ve been resolved calmly.
The restaurant itself is just as bad. The atmosphere is bleak and unwelcoming, with sticky tables, dirty floors, and poorly maintained bathrooms. It’s clear there’s no priority given to cleanliness or customer experience.
The drive-thru isn’t much better. The staff doesn’t struggle with communication—they just don’t speak English well, which makes placing an order far more frustrating than it needs to be. And even if you manage to get your order correct, it’s likely cold or missing items by the time you get it.
This McDonald’s desperately needs a management overhaul, better staff training, and a serious effort to improve customer service and cleanliness. Until then, I’d recommend taking your...
Read moreThompson has the distinct pleasure of offering the worst customer service of any McDonald's that I have visited across the Country. I firmly believe it is because they have the "where else are you going to go" attitude...and sadly, they are not wrong on this approach. If you don't like the food or the service, too bad...the choices in Thompson are few, and this McDonald's seems to know that they have the upper hand. My last experience provides a glimpse of what to expect: They couldn't get my order right, and when I spoke to a Manager about this, she advised me that it was up to me to check the screen to ensure it was correct. They gave me the wrong sandwich afterwards, and then took it back to give to another customer, despite the fact that I had opened the box and looked at the sandwich. They offered no apologies for the lack of attention to service, instead turned and walked away. The sandwiches were thrown together in what one could only assume was from a distance based on how poorly the sandwiches were assembled. It's truly disappointing to see a Corporate giant such as McDonald's accept that this is okay...and it's even more disappointing that the residents of Thompson also accept this poor level of service, because hey, where else are you...
Read moreWent through drive through for a quick bite, they had us confirm order at twice at order screen due to the visual order confirmation being broken, confirmed order at pay window, yet the second we pull up to receive our food they try handing us wrong items. When we mention this, with frustration as we have literally repeated our order out 5 times. They ask us to come inside without giving us any of reciept or food. Once inside the front counter staff had no idea what was going on and then start getting super defensive that its not their fault when I'm getting more and more frustrated. I wasn't the only one with issues as not long after they started to correct my order another person came in...
