Anejo is turning into my go-to Mexican restaurant in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood!
Service & Hospitality: Recently, I had a friend visiting from out of town so I booked a dinner reservation at Anejo. We were over 30-minutes late to our reservation because Line 1 on the TTC was down, so we had to walk from Museum station all the way to the restaurant (approx. 45-min walk). While we were walking I called the restaurant to let them know of the situation, and they were more than happy to accommodate! As soon as we arrived at the restaurant there were some people waiting outside for a table (I assume they didn't have a reservation), but they seated us right away! To further emphasize their hospitality, my friend and I were in a little bit of a rush because she had a VIA train booked to go back home. So they put a rush order on our food and it came out soo quickly!
Food & Drink: You must try the strawberry and rhubarb margarita! Both times I've been at Anejo, I've order this drink and it is amazing. In fact, my friend from out of town said "it was the best margarita she's had in a long time"! The tacos here are full of flavour and you can customize them with the various hot sauces they provide the table! My personal favourite is their spicy mayo! The chicken, pulled pork, and beef tacos are amazing; while I found their fish taco to be a little light on the flavour.
Overall: Anejo by the St. Lawrence market is a MUST try for anyone who enjoys full Mexican flavours and good summer vibes! Compared to the other Mexican spot in the area (Playa Cabana Wellington), Anejo wins hands-down! Whether you're seated outside on their beautiful patio or inside in their cozy restaurant—you'll be sure to have an...
Read moreAnējo is an excellent name for this establishment. A tequila bar and Mexican restaurant that offers both in-depth, Anējo (Ah-Nay-oh) translates to tequila matured to its ideal. My Partner and I don't drink but this was one of the few times we allowed ourselves to pair Spirits with a meal. She fell in love with the Blood Orange margarita with a cinnamon rim. Blood, spirit, and colour checks as a Summerween drink for her. All joking aside, she enjoyed it so much she went to the bar to thank the mixologist, Cole. I am more basic, went cucumber margarita and a flight of tequila to experience the 3 different ages.
The salsa sampler was our favourite appetizer because of the way you can customize the flavours.
We had to maximize the happy hour tacos. I honestly liked all 6 offerings. The menu had great and exciting options and our server Sophie was very well versed. We were amazed this location was only 2 months open, and Sophie was very pleasant and knowledgeable. As an example, the hot white mayo with habanero and horseradish made in-house, she described perfectly. It pairs well with everything
The whole experience was wonderful and we love the vibe. The inside was dark and moody in a good way. Since the weather was so nice we had to eat on the patio. The restaurant's aesthetics we adored, from the logo, to the flight board, to the molcajete we saw carried out for table-side made guacamole.
The Front Street location is young but excellent. We truly recommend a trip to downtown Toronto. Check out St. Lawrence Market, the dog fountain, enjoy the weather. But don't forget to...
Read moreWe came for opening day and it was our first time trying Añejo and we will definitely be back! Happy hour was really good and you get a lot for the prices.
For a drink, I got the chili coconut margarita (after seeing another reviewer here raving about it) and it did not disappoint. Perfectly balanced flavours and not watered down at all.
The happy hour tacos are part of the classic tacos menu and were jam packed with protein and super flavourful - I got 4, the pork carnitas, crispy fish, chicken tinga and chorizo. My partner got 6 (beef/pork/chicken). He really enjoyed his beef ones the most, and I loved the fish and the pork ones. Lots of flavour, ample types of hot sauces to choose from (and a deliciously spicy house mayo). We both chose corn tortillas and they held up and didn’t crumble which is always a positive! I do wish the tortillas were slightly more warm or toasted, but overall, pretty solid and filled tacos, especially at $4/pc.
You cannot leave without getting the tres leches — it was perfectly balance by the lemon flavours and so moist! The candied lemon topping was heavenly too.
Really good value for the price during happy hour — spent $30 a person, and we split a dessert and I got a beverage and we both left happy and full!
Many thanks to our waitress, Zakayah, for her amazing service! I think we might have been her first table, but she was a natural and waited on us perfectly.
Welcome to the...
