Review (1 of 2) I am appalled by my experience at the Afghan Cuisine Restaurant in Ajax. I was really looking forward to the opening and had confirmed a plan with a large group of girls for this coming Sunday. Since I was fasting for Shawwal on Thursday, July 6th, 2017, I decided to stop by with my husband to break my fast and at the same time get an idea of what could to be ordered for Sunday. Before confirming the order and paying for it, I had asked the cashier taking my order to please ensure and let the people in the back know to prepare the food accordingly since I am fasting and I do not want the food to arrive early and get cold. I also told her that I will be breaking my fast at 9:04pm and it will be fine even if the food arrives later than 9:04pm. The cashier acknowledged and informed me that since there is a large group of people who ordered before me, the chef will not start with my order and it will take time. However, she never informed the chef about my request at which time I double checked with her regarding my request. It was a polite conversation and everything appeared to be fine so far. At about 8:35pm (receipt proof), my order was confirmed and paid for. My order was called out at 8:44pm. I was shocked by how quick my order was ready. I approached the other cashier attired in a black shirt and told her politely that when I had first placed my order, I had requested it to be served a little later. I was told that regardless it will take time and I was fine with it. The cashier politely told me it’s ready now so I have to take it. I did not want to or like to argue and I remained calm. I was wondering how the chicken that I ordered can be ready in 9 minutes. (I have proof of that as well) My husband went to the cashier asking why the order was served earlier than scheduled and the food was getting cold. Furthermore, I was told by the same cashier everything is going to be pre heated. I told her if you pre heat everything, the food will get tough. She then said that she will speak to the person in the back. A few minutes later, she came back and said everything will be made fresh for me and to just let her know when I want my food ready. I have been to many restaurants and I know how long fresh food should take to be made. I do not need to taste the food in order to tell the chef if it is fresh, pre heated, stale, etc. Just by looking at the food I can tell if the food is fresh or not. At 8:59pm, I went to the cash counter and let the cashier know if they can please prepare my food and I was willing to wait a while longer after breaking my fast so that I get to have a “fresh meal.” As I was waiting for the cashier to just turn around and let the chef know to prepare my order, instead she went straight to the back area away from view then quickly came out while the chef was clearly in my view. I then received my second order at about 9:02pm and I was shocked by how quickly it was prepared again. They sure have super powers as this time my “fresh meal” got ready in just 3 minutes. When my food was brought to the table, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked the same cashier twice, if she was sure that the food was fresh and in return I was told “I swear to God.” Now I cannot further say much if a person makes such a heavy statement. I had taken pictures of my previous plate and I took picture of the second order and I strongly feel that it was the same order (proof available) There was a certain piece of chicken which had a slight cut from the corner and the second plate had that same piece of chicken. The only difference this time was the chicken pieces were moved around to make it look like it was made again. Due to heating it again, the chicken became extra tough and dark in colour. As to what really happened in the kitchen, Allah Ta’ala knows best. (Review 2 of 2 can be found under 10909 yonge st. google review due to character...
Read moreI've had this food many times. I stopped going to Bamiyan after I tried this place.
I have a some gripes (the last one is seen at the bottom in my "Update")... I am usually vegetarian for long periods of time (but always craving this food)... So after 1 year (etc) of vegetarian meals only, I finally broke my diet and got what I wanted from here. Tandoori Chicken (Kabob) Dinner. I love the rice too. I also got one EXTRA kabob of chicken to compliment the rice and expand the meal since I was going to work a 12-hour shift at work. Sadly, the EXTRA chicken kabob was just plain, NOT tandoori. I definitely made it clear (x2) that the second kabob should be tandoori as well. So that was upsetting since I broke my vegetarian diet just to get this amazing Tandoori Chicken Dinner.
I also dip each and every piece of meat in the red sauce they provide. I usually get two because it's so good. The meal comes with a basic iceberg lettuce side salad which I sometimes mix in with the other stuff, plus a fresh Naan bread which I sometimes don't eat until long after the whole meal.
It beats Bamiyan Kabob (located very nearby and open long before this place) for a few reasons listed below. The staff here are more friendly and professional. The food doesn't take 45-55+ minutes to make, so you don't have to stand around waiting like a moron (even when you call ahead)... Lastly, they don't look at me like they hate me.
Update: this place is going seriously downhill. No matter how much meat / how many meat dishes I order, they always seem to want to give me ONE red chutney sauce. Sometimes I buy enough food for me, sometimes enough for other people too, and I ask for EXTRA RED CHUTNEY SAUCE (for dipping) but they never seem to read the instructions, and only seem to want to give me the absolute minimum red chutney sauce. Which is very annoying when I specifically asked for it and now I have to eat a bunch of plain, dry meat instead. So I've had to change my review stars...
