We have been going to this samosa store for years and really loved their samosa and burfi. Today, however, was awful. It was a tiring Monday, so we thought of getting a to go. We ordered samosas, beef biryani and burfi. It started good as usual with the samosa. Crunchy and tasty as usual. One was a little undercooked but we let it pass. Then our dinner started going downhill from there. The beef biryani we ordered smelled good but after opening the to go container, we only found 4 small pieces of meet. So, we thought, that maybe it was just an oversight but when we tried it, the meat was so dry and hard to chew. It was a dark brown color and seems like it was either overcooked or recooked.
And just when we thought it could not get worse, we took the sweets out. It would have been a saving grace except that as we had a bite of the white burfi, we had to spit it out as it was stale and rancid. The owner said it’s cooked fresh but clearly something is not fresh such as the ingredients used.
If we live close, would have come back to explain the issue.
In fairness, the owners are friendly but not sure if this is reason enough to come back here. Lost trust and clearly the issue with not just the quantity but more importantly, the quality, especially the freshness can easily become a serious risk if not addressed, especially for those who have food...
Read moreThe line ups can't be for their Samosas As we were heading into Faley, a Hakka restaurant located in the same strip mall, I noticed the rather lengthy lineup for Capital Sweets and Samosas. Rather unusual for a Saturday night. As I am always on the hunt for a good Samosa. At the end of our dinner, I ducked out in order to sample Capital's Samosa. Unfortunately, it's fitting that this establishments' very name places sweets first and Samosas last. As their Samosas are nothing to rave about. True, their iteration is priced at 3 for $1 but the price isn't everything. This example is a rather diminutive, leaden triangle filled entirely with a single ingredient that I could taste: potatoes. An exemplary Samosa, of which there are dozens of examples throughout the GTA, is larger filled with an equal amount of peas. And a dough that is thin and crisp. So unfortunately, not recommended at any price. Their Jalebis however, a cloyingly sweet Indian street food, fare much better. Crispy, sweet with some hollow sections filled with liquefied simple sugar is terrific. Note that Jalebis are only one of Capital's wide offering of South...
Read moreI come around this area every week for friday prayer and I just love samosas! So I tried this place about a year ago and the samosa just tasted wrong. I smelled the inside and I could tell the potato stuffing had gone bad. I didnt eat the rest and didnt really care much either as I just spent a few bucks there. Yesterday, I was there again so I was like why not lets get some samosas. This time the samosas were fresh BUT the inside of the beef samosas had a bad smell 🤢 🤮. From my understanding there are some serious issues in the kitchen. If a place thats this busy has bad smelling product that means there are some SERIOUS HYGIENE ISSUES!!
Oh and cherry on top is the girl at the front desk. Worst customer service ever. Did not greet with a smile or any greeting what so ever. When I came back to imform her the samosas had gone bad she looked like she could care less. So I left the bag on the...
