Great location just outside High Park. Unfortunately a very unwelcoming environment and rude head waiter. Huge, multiple signs posted all over the exterior warning about rules - ie no pets on the patio, bathrooms for customers only, and no drinks without a food order - make it feel inhospitable. Every establishment has its rules but this was just unfriendly. But there are no other options nearby, so I stopped by with my family today for a drink on the patio. Heads up for anyone with mobility challenges: the restaurant is not accessible and the stairs to get inside are in bad shape. We were seated after being warned not to move their patio tables (our group was larger than would fit at one and they would not move tables together) and the server made a show of tapping on the the big red note on the menu saying no drinks without food. We followed the rules and ordered a snack with our drinks. We dared to order a second round and the server was indignant when he asked for our meal order we said we were happy with snacks - he actually rolled his eyes and stormed off. Really unfortunate behaviour, especially considering it was mid afternoon between meal times and the restaurant was mostly empty - and I guess now I know why....
Read moreWe really enjoyed our lunch at Aztec's Mine, it a smallish restaurant which includes a few tables on a street side patio. We started with Golden tacos which weren't my favourite but mostly because they were too thick for deep frying imo but the toppings were yum. Tinga tacos were a great choice for my son, he said they were fantastic and he's a big taco guy. The owner suggested Huarache for husband and that was a great recommendation, he was very happy as was I while stealing pieces of surprisingly tender pieces of steak from his plate...hey, don't sit beside me then. I chose the Tostadas de ceviche and was really pleased, the crunchy corn tortillas themselves were of no consequence as the ceviche was fresh and zesty. Have the house made sauces- mild and hot; the hot is freaking delicious! Ponch/sombrero clad cold bottles of Dos Equis were the perfect accompaniment. The kitchen is open and in the middle of the room so you can see, smell and hear everything that's happening; crazy knife skills by the 3 lovely ladies who prepared our meals! Our host and server were warm and friendly, the staff seem to really enjoy themselves. If you're craving great Mexican food, I highly recommend...
Read moreStay away from this establishment. I'm person with disability. I was accused by rude owner of this restaurant for drinking alcohol and being under influence of alcohol. I was waiting outside for my wife to arrive. When I asked the owner to reserve 2 seats, he started his false accusations, because with my disability, I look for him drunk. The diresceptful and arrogant individual ruined my family afternoon. Today, Sunday, July 25th is hot day over 30 degrees. I have a water container in my hand to keep me hydrate. With my disability I must swing the body weight from one knee to another. I was wearing my knee sleeve, which was visible to the owner of the restaurant. He didn't allow me to go inside. Shame. Shame the person with a disability is treated this way especially in Canada 2021. The owner didn't deserve even one star, for his attitude, misconduct and discriminatory behaviour. I will inform public offices about this form of discrimination from Aztec's Mine. However, when I am writing this review, I have a lovely dinner with my wife in another restaurant, which treatment me with respect and dignity. Aztec's Mine, no money for you from me and my...
