I am extremely disappointed with my recent visit to this sushi cafe. Despite having children with me on a very cold and snowy day, we were refused access to the restroom, which was said to be for staff only. The doors were open and it was already 11:35 AM, while the cafe’s official opening time is 11:30 AM. Inside, there were customers present. According to Toronto and Ontario regulations, food establishments with seating are required to provide restroom facilities for their customers. Refusing restroom access to children, especially with the excuse that staff personal belongings are inside, is simply laughable and unacceptable. The staff suggested a public washroom in the nearby park, but I explained it was closed for the winter season. Such treatment in harsh weather conditions is neglectful and inhumane. Given this experience, I will never order from Usagi Sushi again. I do not recommend this place to anyone, especially families with young children.

Reasonable price, premium parts, but inedible. Don‘t be fooled by the presentation. We were very excited when the food arrived. There were several premium fish included; Hotate, Hamachi, and, Chutoro. However, we were in shock after taking the first bite. Tako (Octopus) - Defrosted incorrectly. Water gushes out from inside. Zero flavour. Salmon - it was edible but strong fishy smell. Very close to going stale. Hamachi - We were most excited to see hamachi as it‘s is in season. But it was very watery and again not stale but very close. Chutoro & Red snapper - Similar story to Hamachi. Ebi/hotate/saba was okay. I get that some fishes are impossible to buy unfrozen but I‘m assuming the way it was defrosted ruined the unique flavour and texture.

Update: Unfortunately the quality has gone down since opening. They spicy salmon maki is now filled more with the tempura filler and less meat, which is a shame. So happy to have this place finally open! They are currently only doing take out but I am so excited to be able to sit and eat once they open dining. The food is so good! I got the aburi salmon sushi, spicy tuna and salmon maki and the sushi burrito. The quality is fresh and the take out presentation is so beautiful. I will for sure be regularly ordering at this place! A lot of good vegetarian options as well - the shiitake hasomaki is delicious.

I ordered some sushi dishes from Usagi and I was impressed by their packaging and delivery. The food arrived hot and it looked very fresh and tasty. The packaging was really sustainable and well packed, which I appreciated.

The best dishes were the tempura, which was crispy and light, and the karage chicken, which was seasoned nicely and had a juicy texture. The pressed salmon was not that good, though. It did not contain enough Salmon for the price and the portion size was not enough. The seaweed salad was also quite small and could have been bigger.

The takoyaki were tasty, though. They had a soft and chewy texture and a savory sauce. I liked that they used fresh and quality ingredients for their sushi, which made a difference in the taste and appearance.

I have tried sushi at many restaurants all over Toronto, and I can say that Usagi is one of the better ones. They have a variety of dishes and a good delivery service. They also have reasonable prices and friendly staff. They are not perfect, but they are worth a try.

Overall, I would recommend Usagi for a nice sushi experience. They have a lot to offer and they care about their customers. I would give them four stars...

There are a number of options in and around the neighborhood and we've tried them all. If I was asked, Usagi Sushi would be my reccomendation.

I knocked a star off for atmosphere because I didn't spend much time there. That said, attentive and pleasant service appear to be falling by the wayside these days but that was not the case here. At the register I was served in a very pleasant manner and could see clearly into a busy and clean kitchen.

When I returned home to eat with my wife we were immediately impressed with the presentation/packaging. The "little" things make a big difference and prompted this review.

Prices are about average. Portions were reasonable (no shrinkflation here). The presentation and quality are second to none.

Thanks for making the choice on sushi night an easy one going forward.

Kudos to the team. Keep up...
