Just want to leave an objective review as the other pictures and reviews make this place (basically the upstairs/second floor of Khao San) seem like a restaurant or a place that has a substantial food menu…it does not. Now that’s totally okay, but just you wanna know what it is and what it isn’t before you go there, right?

Yes it’s its own entity but it’s also mainly I would say a spot to get a drink while waiting for a table downstairs, at Khao San. It’s very small. For some reason I thought since it’s “inspired for Bangkok night markets” that it was large, spread out, with ample seating, it doesn’t really. That one picture on google that shows the bar and the row of tables, that’s basically it. And the food menu is very small, they’re no main courses, no noodles…just oysters, small bowl of fried rice, fish balls, oyster mushroom skewers, shrimp chips/crisps, tiny apps/finger food type stuff…again, totally fine, but just don’t post photos of pad Thai on here cuz that’s downstairs. This is a cocktail bar. They’ve got a small menu of cocktails, good prices, $14-$16, and the drinks are good, not incredible but good. They have Singha on tap, and a few other beers, no Thai beer in bottles, that’s also downstairs, and downstairs has no draft but you can order draft beer upstairs and bring it downstairs which is nice. And that’s basically it. It’s really tiny, it doesn’t really feel like a night market in Bangkok. The music is very loud top 40 pop, but the lighting is great. Downstairs the music is very loud top 40 pop and the lighting is pretty harsh. The food upstairs and downstairs is very good. And the service is very friendly. All the Khao San sister restaurants no one really answers the phone when you call and reservations I believe are by email and in advance only, nothing within a 24hr time frame so having this bar upstairs is great…it means you don’t have to wait in the lobby. That’s about it - if you’re going to dinner at Khao San check it out, if you’re coming here as the main event, either don’t arrive starving or put your name on the list downstairs…and you’ll get your pad Thai &...

Such a shame really, had all the promise to be a nice regular spot, as it’s really kind of hidden/off the beaten track and it has a very good selection of drinks/food for some casual drinks/bites. Our first server was delightful, although after the first round we had a new server which is when things started to go downhill…originally there was four of us, with two joining later on in the night however by the time they joined we had to go up to the bar ourselves to get drinks as our server continued to avoid us for the night after we had raised the question of whether the 16oz drink they served was actually 16oz (turns out it was 12oz), then we were left waiting for our bill and when we received it, it had included a 20% gratuity (which the server never stated when it was handed to us), we were told that it was mandatory for groups of 6 which I understand but the server never actually served us when we were a table of 6…we had to look after ourselves. We then said we would pay it but didn’t agree that it matched the service we received, at which point the waitress stormed off and a manager came back who was combative, rude, and complaining that he had such a busy day there…which was irrelevant to our situation. The attitude of the manager and the server really changed the mood of our night, and I would go out of my way to discourage people from every going here and going to somewhere close by that would offer much better (actual) service and to not make you feel as if the problem lies with you as the customer after...

Went there after the Jays vs Tampa game. The bar is located above the Khao San Road restaurant and our wait time at the restaurant was 30 minutes so the hostess suggested we could go upstairs and hang out at Sue Bang. There were a total of 8 people upstairs including us. The server/bartender took the order for the group of 4 but didn’t ask us or the other couple. We figured it would be easier for us to order if we sat at the bar while she prepared the drinks for the other group, we just wanted beers as we were there to kill time. She ignored us and the other couple for a while, not even acknowledging our presence. Busy bartenders/servers usually say something like ‘I’ll be with you in a minute’. A few other people walked in and shouted their orders so she proceeded to serve everyone else while still ignoring us. When we called her (seated right across from her at the barstool) she just replied with “what?”. She continued to serve everyone else, spending more time balancing ice cubes and limes on cocktails than serving us. After waiting for over 30 minutes we just left when they called us downstairs. While leaving she had the gall to ask us “you don’t want beer now?” Hard to believe this place is part of Khao San road, stark difference in the service standards between...

You can take my money any day if you’re wiling to open until 2am in downtown! Great cocktails, cider and beers on tap. Love the disco/dark ambiance of this bar (just second floor of Khao San Road). If you like ciders on the sweeter side, try Twin Pines, tastes just like apple juice - have two pints of this and you’ll definitely be buzzed. The fried rice was DELISH. So flavourful and tasted so healthy with the grilled veggies. Only thing my group and I didn’t like were the brussel sprouts, the toasted rice toppings are so hard, it almost chipped our teeth. Not a fan. This topping should be removed. Friendly staff and quick service, you’ll definitely see us again for late night eats!

Located upstairs from the ground level restaurant, I absolutely loved this place. It was dimly lit, trendy, had tvs with sports, played 90s hip hop and rnb and serves asian-influrnced drinks and bar snacks. Menu looked great but we just got drinks. For me Letters to Iwo Jima which was basically their spin on an Old Fashioned. Superb! Awesome wall art and a straw decorated bar area. Nice places to sit for date or group. Umm disco ball? Say less. Service was top notch. Friendly and attentive. Even the bussers were super nice. Perfect spot for out of towners to get their night started as a jump off point. I would definitely return and bring others here on my next visit.
