This Hotel was more than I ever expected. Let’s start with the location. It sits in downtown literally a few blocks from EVERYTHING!!!! We parked our rental and did not move it for 5 days. We never had to use the trolly which stopped right in front of the hotel or the subway which had a station one block from the hotel. The CN Tower and aquarium were a 5 minute walk away. The waterfront 10 minutes. The huge Eaton mall 15 minute walk. St Lawerence market, 15 minute walk. Chinatown 15 minute walk. Kensington Market 20 minute walk. Every type of restaurant steps away. Perfect PERFECT LOCATION!!!
Our room was huge. The photos on the website are accurate. What you see is exactly what you get. Our room had a microwave and mini fridge. The room has a safe. The room was super clean. Loved the huge bathroom. We were given bathrobes and slippers but we didn’t use them. The room also has complimentary Dasani Water bottles, coffee, and tea. There is a scale in The bathroom to remind you just how much good food you’re eating.
The bed was a little too firm for me yet it wasn’t uncomfortable. Bedding was nice. The towels initially were large and plush but the replacements were not. They were thin and rough. They were clean which is more important to me.
The free WiFi was strong and fast. The large flat screen had a program on there that allowed you to easily use your own accounts (Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc.) ON THEIR TV.
The hotel said they will have a complimentary continental breakfast starting Oct 2022. While we were there they provided complimentary prepackaged muffins and croissants. Instant oatmeal, yogurt, granola bars, and fruit every morning. They also provided individual bottles of Tropicana juices. Everything was clean and nicely laid out.
The staff is phenomenal!!! When I checked in, the young man behind the desk was so warm and welcoming. He patiently answered all my questions. We arrived around 3pm and were allowed to check in early (check in is at 4pm). The young man provided me with every detail about the hotel in such a manner that was not overwhelming and very easy to understand. We stayed 6 nights. I wish I remembered his name to give him a shout out. We didn’t see him again until the morning we checked out. He was just as kind on our last day as he was on our first. The other staff we encountered were also very kind. We always opt out of getting our room cleaned. We always simply order fresh towels and wash cloths. We have absolutely no complaints about the service we received. It was top notch.
The building is only 7 stories high which is perfect. Toronto tends to have skyscraper hotels which I am not a fan of. The pool and fitness center are both on the 7th floor. The indoor pool was closed when we went on a self guided tour. So was the outdoor area on the 7th floor. The gym was open. It was a decent size with all new equipment. The hotel is connected to a condo building. You can walk to that building from the 7th floor. That building has a very nice rooftop area with trees and benches- it’s all on the 9th floor.
The hotel elevator will not go up without guest using their room key card to grant access to all floors above the main lobby. We never heard any other guest through the walls or ceiling. We could hear guest who were in the hall talking loudly. The hotel location is in the heart of the city so you can here a little of the city life going on outside. Our room was facing King Street.
When we first arrived we had a hard time figuring out where to pull our car in for valet. There is a little alley between the hotel and another building. It leads to the back of the hotel that opens up to a really nice courtyard. You’ll miss the alley entrance if you blink to many times while driving.
We booked through Expedia who was having a sale. Hotels in downtown Toronto are pricey. King Blue Hotel was well worth the price. The only con I could think of would be the daily parking fee and the hotel did not have balconies.
I highly recommend this hotel over the big brand...
Read moreI rarely write reviews because I'm perpetually rushed, but good businesses deserve them and I benefit so much from helpful, honest reviews as I travel a lot and am constantly faced with the overwhelming yet consequential task of choosing hotels. A bad hotel can ruin an entire trip. I stayed at the Sutton Place Hotel Toronto for a week in August and I was so impressed with the staff in particular that it was important to me to find the time to write this. I should also add that I have a preference for staying at local/boutique hotels when possible (Sutton Place is a Canadian hotel company) and reviews are often extra helpful for those.
Obvious desirable attributes of this hotel include: excellent location, excellent lap pool and locker room facility with generous hours (as a swimmer this was a key factor in my choosing this hotel), great Nespresso machine in room with plenty of pods, comfortable robe and slippers in each room, and plentiful bottled water, although I always use my own bottle to reduce plastic. Room service is available and the restaurant downstairs looked beautiful but I prefer to eat around the city (especially Toronto, which has excellent and diverse food options) so I didn't try it.
In addition, I'll note that the elevators are very fast, there's a bottle-filling station in the gym and at the front desk, the beds are extremely comfortable, the toiletries are great, the AC is high-quality and minimally disruptive, it's easy to obtain cutlery (and it's sustainable), and housekeeping does an excellent job.
But what really stands out about this hotel is the people who work there. I truly cannot say enough about how kind and competent and above-and-beyond helpful each and every employee I encountered was, including housekeeping. The hotel was so busy and there didn't even seem to be that many staff members yet they somehow handled everything smoothly, patiently, super professionally, and with good humor. As a frequent traveler, this is rare, and I'm always very understanding of patchy service since I know I would be really stressed and tired in a similar situation!
In the interest of honesty, the rooms were just shy of 5 stars for me. As I mentioned, the bed was very comfortable and the blackout curtains were completely effective, and that really is the main thing. However, the showers could use a bit of cleanup and the rooms show some minor wear and tear (and aren't great for natural light, but I don't spend much time in my room). If you get a room facing the main streets, there is noise (but that's unavoidable in this location). A room facing the alley has no view but is much quieter. Finally, the aesthetic is almost too neutral--there isn't anything wrong with that, but from a purely stylistic point of view, per my taste, the rooms would benefit from some warmth. The design is perhaps a bit corporate and forgettable. On the plus side, this means the hotel isn't swarmed by aspiring influencers. These are minor issues and didn't materially affect my stay, but if you're the type of traveler who spends a large amount of time in their room, this could be more of an issue.
TL;DR: this hotel is outstanding in all the ways that matter and I really look forward to...
Read moreWhat an amazing stay at King Blue Toronto, I honestly havent been this excited staying at a hotel in so long. It started with an early arrival in Toronto from Santiago, Chile. Exhausted from a 10 hour flight, my brother and I arrived at the hotel at 6:30 a.m. and not expecting what awaited us. As soon as we walked in, greeted with a big smile by Hong and said welcome to King Blue Toronto how may I assist you? We are here to check in but we are way too early and just want to leave our bags in storage and return later. She asked for my name and said, let me see what I can do since we have some rooms available for check in. Oh, that would be great if we can get in early as we were obviously tired, any room will do but would prefer 2 beds if thats not too much to ask I said. She calmly looked at her screen and said, addressing me by last name, regrettably I have no 2 bedded rooms available during your stay but I have something that would suit your needs, let me offer you a complimentary upgrade to a suite that has 2 beds. I said, thank you so much and she proceeded to complete the check in process + explained everything we needed to know about the hotel services in detail. She even offered to have someone bring our carry-ons to the room which we politely declined. When we stepped into the room, we were amazed at the space and the impeccable cleanliness plus plush decors which embodies the feel of luxury. Not realizing what we really have, we walked into one bed room and noticed it had one bed, so I said to my brother, oh well, let`s flip a coin to see who goes into the couch and went towards the living area where we saw a glimmer of hope, the second room! Honestly, a standard room with two beds would have sufficed but this, is what made the whole experience described to in what “sitting in the lap of luxury” is all about, from first guest service impression, to an all-out luxurious environment feel is what separates a hotel stay from heaven on earth. Thank you also to Julian for making us feel at home, and to Shivam Maggo for the welcome amenity.
Location is central close to transit and just minutes from Billy Bishop Airport. Highly recommended luxury hotel in the heart of...
