Bloomer's is such a puzzling bakery to me.
They make some amazing products (chocolate PB cake is AMAZING, as are most of the donuts) but also make some products that are not good (the cake part of the donut cake tastes like dense, plain bread).
Ordering from them is also very hit-and-miss. I've ordered multiple cakes from them over the years and have had issues such as: -them forgetting to make a birthday cake I had ordered (or giving it to someone else prior to me picking it up.. still unclear as I was given different answers by different staff) -them sending a cake to the pick-up wrong location (resulting in me having to drive to another Bloomer's to get it) -making the incorrect flavour cake on two different occasions -not following the order instructions/comments on a cake order, despite me following the explicit order instructions the owner suggested I write when placing the order
The customer service from the owners is okay, and they did provide a free cake for all the issues over the years which was appreciated. The service from the cashiers/front desk staff, however, leaves a lot to be desired. I have many examples of this including one from just yesterday but will not go into this as this review is already lengthy.
It really seems like the owners are hiring employees with minimal baking, reading comprehension, and customer service skills, knowing that the stores will do well regardless because they have great donuts.
Call me a fool because I purchase from Bloomer's year after year as, again, I do love some of their products. I just don't understand why they have not improved over the years when given...
Read moreThe service was really friendly and accommodating! The person at the front took out cakes from the back, and assisted me very quickly with the orders. They were very patient as I was deciding the flavour of cake I wanted. However, I did not really enjoy the cakes and donuts.
Cookies & Cream Cake : The icing on the cake was crumbly (even after we defrosted it for several hours), and very sweet. It was very heavy, and left an oily feeling in my mouth. Although the inside of the cake was moist, it was also cloyingly sweet, which made it hard to eat. There was no balance of flavours or something to offset the sugariness.
Donuts (Ferrero Rocher, Strawberry, Earl Grey, Birthday Cake, Boston Cream) : The dough had great texture for a vegan donut. It was indistinguishable from a regular non-vegan donut. It had a nice slight chew, and was very fluffy. However, the icing again was extremely sweet. Although it had a strong flavour (e.g., intense london fog tea taste), it was difficult to eat more than a bite because there wasn't any other flavour to counterbalance the sweetness.
I want to like the baked goods here as they are beautiful, well priced, and vegan! It would be good if they could have added ingredients that added bitterness, sourness or saltiness to improve the tastes of...
Read moreI go to the Bloor location once in awhile, and while i find it overpriced, I return again and again for coffee and a bagel. Me and my partner excitedly stopped by this location only to be greeted by flustered staff. We had to wait while they brewed a fresh pot of coffee, and I have to say, it was probably the worst cup of coffee I've ever had. Couldn't even finish it. We both got bagels with cashew cheese and the add-ons. We found the bagels stale and the prices for the add-ons ridiculous (3 dollars for a few slices of avocado???), the cashew cheese was delicious as always though. My bagel came to 10 dollars and my partners was 15 (with the drip coffee) which is pretty ridiculous considering.. it's just bagels with a spread and some veggies. I was also surprised that the tofu club sandwich was as expensive as it was, it sounded pretty good but the price stopped me from ever trying it. The staff also never asked us if it was for here or to-go, so we got our bagels in paper bags instead of plates which makes it pretty messy when you're dealing with an everything bagel. I sadly...
