My friend and I made the mistake of eating here. I hope no one else does.
My friend and I are new immigrants to Canada, and were very keen on eating Indian food to get a taste of home.
Quite clearly, Bombay Chowpatty (or Leela's Indian Food Bar, as they have rebranded themselves) is not the place to go. I would have given this review zero stars, but that is not possible.
We each ordered a plate of chaat, and decided to share the Chicken 65, which was labelled a 'chef's special'.
The papdi chaat I ordered was good to look at on the surface, but that's where the positives ended. The papdi that forms the base of the chaat was rancid - it had quite clearly gotten spoiled some time ago.
What was even worse was the Chicken 65, which was so spicy it made both of us forget the cold outside - we were sweating bullets, and at one point, even wondered if we were hallucinating. The chicken was extremely poorly prepared, and while we were expecting some sort of sweet, sour, and spicy combo, we were left drinking plenty of water that did little to lessen the impact of the dish.
Worse still, we both developed upset stomachs just minutes after leaving the restaurant: the food played havoc on our digestive systems, and we were required to spend quite a bit of time on the night of our dinner - and several times the next day - in the bathroom - to deal with the painful aftermath of our meal.
I write this review a day after eating at Bombay Chowpatty, and my stomach is still burning from last night's incident.
We ordered a single plain naan to absorb some of the overwhelming spice of the Chicken 65. While it did arrive warm, it quite clearly appeared to be store bought. I have seen better quality naan sold by Suraj's and President's Choice.
The food was overpriced and grossly underwhelming. I will quite clearly not be returning here to have food, nor I think would my friend. I suggest you don't either...there are many amazing restaurants on Gerrard Street that I am sure will offer you far better value...
Read moreThis is one of the decent places to eat on Gerrard street. BC offers great Indian street food options. They have their own special recepies. There is definitely a lot to work on cleanliness though. This place has a potential to do much better. Spice Alert !! Although I Love their fries and chaat, however, I can handle spice, so I love their food. But if you cannot handle spice you may wanna skip a lot of items on the menu. I am pretty sure you can ask them to prepare it mild for you though. Not a lot of eateries are open late on Gerrard street. But BC is open late, I believe until midnight. Paan and ice-cream is good too. Chickpeas gravy that they use in their Tikki chaat is too sweet. It spoilt the whole dish for me. Gol Gappas were amazing but once again the water - tooooo spicy ( can actually burn stomach right away ). Vada Pav tasted good too - again spicy (relatively less spicy). One of my friends could not eat anything because it was that spicy. Great place to have spicy snacks. Hope they will lower down the spice level for a larger...
Read moreThis was by far the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. The staff were incredibly rude and dismissive from the moment I walked in. There was no effort to be polite or respectful, and the way they interacted with certain customers – including myself – was unacceptable.
What was most disturbing was the apparent bias in how they prioritized orders. It felt like they were only focused on serving people from their own background, while ignoring or delaying others. This kind of behavior is not just unprofessional – it’s discriminatory.
Canada is a multicultural and diverse country, and everyone deserves to be treated with fairness and respect regardless of their ethnicity. There is no place for racism or favoritism in customer service.
The restaurant wasn’t even busy, yet the service was incredibly slow, and the attitude of the staff made the experience even worse. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Save your time, money, and dignity – go elsewhere.
They don’t even clean the place up you can see it’s not hygienic as...
