Went there on Sat Apr21/18 at 7:30pm. Restaurant is beautiful, upscale. Greeted at the door by a smiling, attentive host, who I later found out was the owner. Had the chef's menu ($60) - a 7 course meal where the chef decides what you have. For each dish, the chef comes out and explains what it is. Food is amazing!! Light and rich (does that make sense? Each course was delicious, but not too heavy.) Portions were just right, not too small. By the end we were stuffed. First course was: fried rice or corn balls with mushrooms inside and bruschetta with goat cheese and arugala. Delish. Second course was Caesar salad - a baby romaine lettuce heart drizzled with Caesar dressing, bacon, and focaccia croutons. Delicious. I like that the lettuce was cold, it tasted so fresh. Third course was octopus with squid ink polenta. It was good. Fourth course was a small-noodle pasta with rappini. Flavours were perfect in this dish. So delicious. Fifth course was ravioli stuffed with mushrooms and goat cheese, I think. This was the highlight of the show for me, it was sooooo good. They have this as a regular pasta dish on the menu, but it is so rich, I don't know if I would want a full dish of it. The tasting menu we were having was a portion of two raviolis. The sixth course was very rare thin cut of steak seared on three sides and not seared at all on one side. It was served on top of eggplant and lots of olive oil. It was good. Then they offer an aperitif (comes with the tasting menu) of either Lemoncello or some other Italian liquor that kind of taste like Brio. I had it, it was good. Dessert was a cannoli that was made in house. It was delicious. Cream inside was fresh and the server told us that the pastry was just made in-house. Service was excellent. Our server was Dale, he's great, funny, knowledgeable. Chef came by our table, owner came by our table. Excellent experience, beautiful atmosphere. Authentically Italian (Scicilllian). Highly recommend. Bill came to $350 with tax and tip for 4 people, 2 glasses of wine ($10 each), one juice ($4), and we all had the tasting...
Read moreTL;DR: Amazing food, great quality, would go back.
Just south of St. Claire on Yonge streets sits Capocaccia, a trattoria that serves traditional Italian fare.
I went there with a part of 4 including myself and we all took part in the tasting menu they offer. It consists of 7 courses that essentially follow what an Italian meal would be like.
The space inside was dimly lit and not very spacious which created a cozy atmosphere. The one gripe I had was that there didn't seem to be too much heating so they needed little space heaters on the floor. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about all the food they were serving. I was pleasantly surprised that they would replace our utensils after each course. I'll include the food at the end so you don't have to scroll for the important stuff.
The food was absolutely delicious and everything we had was cooked to perfection. Their combinations were creative and went well together on the plates. The individual flavours of each dishes components shone through and allowed you to appreciate the breadth of flavour that was offered. I would definitely go back again in the future with the great quality of food offered here.
The Tasting Menu
Our first course were mozzarella and mushroom croquettes on a bed of tomato pesto (imagine mozzarella sticks).
The second course was a beetroot salad made with heirloom beetroots, blood oranges, Romano cheese, hazelnuts, dusted with dehydrated beetroot powder.
The Third course was carpaccio with arugala, crispy capers and a truffle aioli.
The fourth course was grilled swordfish on a cherry tomato sauce.
The fifth course was gnocchi with wild boar sausage.
The sixth course was a medium rare steak with potatoes rapini and a rapini puree.
The 7th and final course was a combination of a cannoli dusted with pistachio and an...
Read moreI walk with my colleague every night on our way home by this restaurant and keep reading the billboard outside the entrance about their happy hour 4-7 pm half price appetizers and drinks. So on Friday night after work, three of us decided to catch up from the holidays and drop by for a drink. In our minds all three of us were looking forward to that nice glass of wine. When we entered the restaurant the bar had no more seating and there were two tables left in front of the bar area by the front door, which all of assumed it was part of the bar area. We asked if it was happy hour and the waitress told us only if seated directly at the bar and the two tables were not deemed bar area. Hmm very interesting we remarked because no where on your sign does it mention 4-7 that this only applies directly to the bar. Never heard that before in any other establishment. Yes if they say bar area, table sitting is included. After much discussion the waitress agreed to give us the wine at lower cost, however we were not allowed to order food at the lower cost only at the bar. Very frustrating as we always eat and drink so we don't get tipsy. Common practice. We decided to order a platter of antipasto; (cheese and selective meats) which should keep all three ladies happy. Oh dear the platter at 22$ arrived barely feeding one person, very skimpy platter. Actually ridiculous. Three women dividing three slim tiny pieces of cheese and three pieces of cold cuts. No value at all.
I would not return again as it gave us all a bad taste on how the servers handle it and how the establishment advertises their discount at the door. Sign should read: Happy Hour for TEN PEOPLE seated at bar only!!
No more stopping here for a drink again. A lot more down the street on Yonge St. to discover and gain our business.
