Found this place when shopping near Casa Loma. Corner restaurant with both booth seating, diner stools, and regular table and chairs. Cute decor with pineapple lamp shades and a dark green and brown color pallette. Available outdoor patio seating in both front and back of restuarant. Mexican inspired with infusion of Thai and British plates. Had the Mexican version of fish and chips: Came with 4-5 pieces of hot crispy Tilapia fish on top of fries with a topping of red onion coleslaw. Fish was hot and well spiced, a tad on the dry side but surprised I liked Tilapia! Didn't think I'd like the red onion coleslaw but was tasty, had a vinaigrette and evenly tossed pepper which made it hard to stop eating; was a nice paring with the fish. The side sauce was tasty, but I usually don't like mayonnaise based sauce with anything. Fries were well spiced and crispy. Had the Southern fried chicken with side fries: Well spiced with cumin that wasn't spicy, thus okay for my foodmates. Sorry it didn't come with a side of some sort. Came with a few pickles on top as side and garnish. Loved the house made ketchup (tangy tomatoe sauce without the extra sugar in Heinz) and green hot sauce which were the perfect pairing of the meal. Drink: non alcoholic Mango Moscow Mule with ginger beer. Needed to be mixed before drinking as the mango juice sat on the bottom, more likely because of the density. Presentation was pleasant, loved the wooden plates and copper mugs. Service was pleasant and prompt. Each table has at the table paying for your bill via QR code, which is the first time I've seen...and a great idea! Cost: 3 piece chicken $20, fish and chips $24, mule $8, side chips $6.50. Overall: would actually give them 4.5 stars...will return despite it being far for me. Definite star amongst an out of the normal...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI thought a lot about whether or not to write this review. I am a small business person myself and I know in particular how hard F&B can be. I also know that sometimes things are just not working well and people have bad days. Nonetheless, I do believe that feedback is a type of gift that can help all of us to improve.
I went to Chadwick's for brunch. I didn't have a reservation and to be fair it was fairly business as Saturday at noon can be. I was seated at a table and after waiting twenty minutes for someone to take my order while watching other people get service after only five minutes I was about to leave. Finally someone who was apparently not covering my area asked if I needed anything. I told her I had been waiting twenty minutes and I was about to leave. She apologized and asked if I wanted a cup of coffee. I said yes and she brought me what was a tepid cup coffee with no sugar.
I ordered the custom benny with bacon and wilted greens. She came back and told me they didn't have any greens and I said fine. The benny came on a flatbread. Frankly, I like the idea of escaping the confines of english muffins and the benny presented well on flatbread but in fact it was quite awkward to cut and eat with a knife and fork. Perhaps it would be better if the flatbread were cut in two, one piece for each egg. Not sure. All the dishes were Mexican cuisine infused to some extent. Again, it sounds appealing and plates well but I'm not sure this particular fusion is my cup of tea.
Anyway, they apologized again as I paid the check. They comped the tepid coffee. All in all not really an inspiring brunch...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI didn't see this listed anywhere on their website or while booking but this place will automatically charge you a 20% gratuity on larger parties (we were only 8 people) so if you come here keep that in mind.
The review: Our server Kaitlyn was great, she was attentive and whenever we asked to have something fixed she was on it, so nothing of the below was her fault. We were seated for dinner, so maybe this place just does brunch better based on other reviews.
The tacos de pollo en Nogada: do not order them. They were dry and didn't have much flavor beyond tasting sweet and didn't have a lot of toppings or any sides to add any sort of additional interest. All of the taco dishes that came with tortillas had just untoasted torilla, not even slightly, just soft tortilla with very little flavor or texture to add to the dishes they came with.
If you want to sit outside on their patio, don't do it in spring in Canada. We were seated under a pine tree (that hung over half of the patio) from which pinecones and other debris kept falling on us and IN our drinks and food. When we alerted staff of this, they just shrugged their shoulders and didn't offer to move us or open up a collapsible fabric roof that I could see was rolled up next to the building.
Some of the food we ordered was interesting, and the drinks were pretty good as was our server, but overall the quality didn't meet expectations for the price, so unfortunately I can only...
