Open again!! Love their chicken. Very old school family owned joint. Best fries in the game, hands down (you just need to add your own salt and pepper to your liking). This location is unique and has charm. Not the same as the places with a similar name.
Yellow chicken gravy, I put that stuff on everything!
Things to keep in mind: -Cash ONLY, no debit/credit, mobile payments -check the times when they are open -expect to wait a little bit while they make your food, they only have 2 people working. -they close in the afternoon to clean and take a break. There are only two people. Let them have a rest. *there is no off menu ordering, no substitutions, no special requests. Just order what’s on the menu, don’t ask for gluten-free, vegan, etc. cause you are going to catch an attitude asking if you are going to ask if their macaroni salad is made with fat-free mayo.
5/5, if you are dining-in and are going to eat it right away, get their gravy put directly on top of your fries. It’s a magical experience. Take out, you get it on the side so it don’t soggy up your fries.
They’re very traditional. They keep their menu simple, however, if they had made a poutine with their amazing fries and yellow gravy with cheese curds, I think I would probably be there every day that they are open. It would...
Read moreOkay if anyone is looking for the best fried chicken in Toronto, get over to chick n joy in the Leslieville/Beach area ASAP. I’ve been coming here for over 30 years and recommending it to everyone I know. The food is hands down top quality it’s a small mom and pop place where everything is freshly made no frozen fries or overly processed chicken used here. They get the best ingredients available and then transform it the best fried chicken and fries on this planet. Don’t forget to get the chicken gravy, I know it’s yellow and throws people off, but it’s amazing and tip make sure you order it on the side so you can dip the amazing hand cut cut crispy fries into it. Service is simple and fast they don’t waste time with fake small talk, they just want to ensure they provide you will a great meal at a great price. As their parents have been doing for over 40 years. Please note they aren’t in business to make a fortune they just want to make a living so they are only open Tuesday to Saturday and only accept cash. They don’t accept credit cards because they are small business and the bank fees would impact their prices. So when you visit bring a $10 bill order the 2 piece with fries and a gravy on the side and thank me later for putting you on to this gem in our...
Read moreMy friends rave about this place! But they seem to always be closed every time I try to go (the sign still says theyre still open) , but I guess they're a small business - no big deal. So I thought if I call ahead I could catch them when they're open - except they never seem to answer the phone. I finally managed to find them open! The girl at the cash was perfectly deadpan and weird but to each their own. While waiting, I casually asked if I had the right phone number (from the google listing) - the answer was an endless stream of sass as she explained that the phone rings too much so they don't answer (Note: there is a sign in the door inviting customers to call ahead to avoid waiting). Anyway when she finally stopped giving me attitude, she just glared at me till my order came out.
The food: if a place has terrible service but still has great food, I'll still come back, probably. Of the 3 pieces, 2 were warm-ish and soggy, one was crispy and hot. The fries were cold. Flavour was decent.
Verdicct? KFC and Popeyes are a 6 minute drive away; juts stick to that. Taste is different but just as good as chick n joy, but you know what you're getting and you don't feel like you're tip-toeing on glass when talking...
