I arrived on a Friday, it was pretty busy nothing overwhelming that would cause delays in service.
Food:
I ordered the jerk tacos, chorizo and steak. I wanted the BBQ pulled pork but they were sold out. 4 x tacos for $13.99 is very good for Toronto but the quality aligns with the pricing. I later on went to try the BBQ pulled pork.
The chorizo taco was decent, especially with the chipotle sauce but I wouldn’t get it again.
The famous jerk taco was okay, wouldn’t get it again.
The BBQ pulled pork was decent but kind of dry. The shredded cheese was the basic grocery story cheese. The gauce/spicy sauce was decent, kinda overwhelming with thickness.
The steak taco was the best of the 3, which I would get again.
The tortillas were a good size but seemed grocery store bought so flavour and texture were greatly missing.
They made a point of trying the hot sauce bar they had by the entrance. They had a great variety as self serve concept. However, you need to ask them for a small container.
I topped off the meal with an order of churros. I was given chocolate filled despite ordering dulce de leche filled. Either way, they were tiny in comparison to others in the city and not nearly as tasty as others. I would not buy these again or suggest anyone else get them for 3 tiny pieces for $6.
Environment:
Staff were friendly enough. Willing to help out and describe meals, which is a plus to see servers who don’t hate their job.
Music is pretty loud with reggaeton mostly. Not bad for a weekend night but not a place to go for a chat.
They have about 5 tables. Barebones location but you go for the food anyways and you save money with the low overhead.
They accept credit cards, including AMEX.
Parking seemed kind of sketchy with pot holes and not well lit and also shared with many other stores in the plaza.
Worth a try for the price but if dodgy areas make you too nervous, maybe sit this one out or...
Read moreI’m just confused and kind of embarrassed at my experience, which is the reason for the low rating, however I did not eat here. I was just passing through the area with my daughter and she really wanted tacos. I pulled into this parking lot and noticed this Contigo. The sign on the window was lit ‘open’ and door was wide open as well. There was 1 gentleman eating inside, and 2 groups of men, 3 each, right outside the door at tables eating, and 1 lady at a separate table also eating as well. I proceeded to the counter where I was greeted by a lady who came from the back, I greeted her as well, which is when she proceeded to tell me they are closed and don’t open until 6:00pm. Because I try not to be confrontational in front of my 9 year old, I asked no questions in the moment, I just said thank you and left. Now, I did later confirm that they do actually open at 6:00pm on google, and I think we were there shortly before 6:00pm. But nevertheless, the situation prior lead me to have absolutely no answers to my young daughter as to why so many other people were comfortably eating there, with the “open” sign turned on, I couldn’t even think of any fabrication on the spot to tell my daughter to make it make sense. I did show my daughter that Google says it’s open 6:00pm afterwards, but our experience just didn’t make sense in the moment, and she still questioned me regardless, however I was equally as confused as her. And I hate to bring this up, but being the skin colour we are, I’m hoping my daughter didn’t think anything bias in the situation. I just know I felt embarrassed, I’m assuming she may have as well based on the things she was asking me, while walking away from a place that we had every reason to believe was open, but we were turned away without...
Read moreThis is a Google and GO restaurant. Don't contemplate.....just GO!!
Everything about this place is a 10, especially the prices. The quality and the flavors are OUTSTANDING on everything, including every sauce. AND they have a BREAKFAST MENU!!
Their whoa sauce has its own instagram!!! Yes, it's that good!!! and the consome you receive to dip your empanadas in is DELICIOUS! The empanadas are the best I have ever had, the Crisp they get on the pastry coupled with the exceptionally seasoned beef, chicken or fish will have you come back again I promise you. We ordered another set of empanadas right after eating our meal!
The fish tacos are my absolute favorite and the desserts are perfection. If you like tres leches theirs is rich and flavorful and the churros come in threes and are also the best I've tasted in Toronto....definitley not like the cold stale churros we purchased recently from a popular burrito chain.
I think the best part of our visit was getting to talk to one of the owners and hear the story of perseverance and triumph.
Issa win, Issa vibe We will be visiting contigo again soon!!
