Food: 4 Stars Service: 3 Stars Ambience: 3 Stars Value: 3 Stars Overall: 3.25 Stars ** Update Review ** (As of August 2023) Upon revisiting Toro Sushi, I decided to give their poke a try, hoping for a better experience. The poke - now that was a pleasant surprise. The flavour profile was spot-on, definitely exceeding that of the sushi I'd previously tasted. The dish was layered with a blend of tastes that danced on the tongue, showcasing the freshness of the fish and the expert preparation. The poke held a harmonious balance of savory, sweet, and a touch of spice. The textures were diverse and engaging, with the tender fish, crisp vegetables, and the satisfying crunch of toasted sesame seeds. This was undoubtedly the star of the show and a stark contrast to my earlier experience. In conclusion, if you find yourself at Toro Sushi, I would recommend you opt for the poke instead of the sushi. Despite the disappointing service and uncomfortable seating, the poke managed to elevate the dining experience. While their sushi may fall short, it appears their expertise lies within crafting an exceptional poke. ** Review ** (As of July 2022) First time at Toro Sushi, and I don't understand what the hype is. The sushi quality was below expectation. The Lobster Tower (15.00 CAD for six pieces) had a strange after-taste. Miso Soup (2.50 CAD) was way too salty. Lobster + Shrimp Sushi Tacos ($13.00 CAD for three parts) was very small, and I barely can see or taste any lobster. The service was very poor; the staff was not very friendly and did not feel very welcoming. The seating was also very uncomfortable and tight. Only one washroom is available to the public. We chose to dine in, but there were just so many boxes (waste of packaging) and so little space on the table. Overall, I think you are paying more for the pretty packaging than the actual sushi. This sushi shop comes across as trying too hard to innovate and differentiate sushi but completely misses the ballpark. kellychan360

Toro Toro is a busy spot for premium sushi. I stopped by around 5 pm on the Monday of the Family Day Weekend and the place was totally packed. All the tables were filled and there was also a bit of a line up to place your orders. And, the wait for takeout was now 30 minutes. Everyone was understanding and waiting patiently. I placed my orderForbidden Roll (seared butterfish and crab stick) has a bit of sweetness from the mango but I enjoyed the seared fish. I also ordered Classic Tuna Poke Bowl ($15) and was impressed with all the toppings which included edamame beans, pineapple, pineapple, cucumbers, and seaweed salad, avocado and more with warm seasoned rice. I liked the sauces which was topped with ponzu, spicy & Japanese mayo with Teriyaki sauces. The presentation of all the rolls are amazing. My favourite has to be the Tataki Maki with seared Yellowtail with Tempura. I especially enjoyed how it was topped with jalapeño which gave it a bit of heat. The Kirin Fotomaki is cooked shrimp topped with crispy Yam strings and the Hidden Dragon is Seared Unagi with Tamago (egg) topped with yam strings. Unfortunately the Yam Strings were too much for this roll and I found it overpowered the taste and texture of the eel. But overall I enjoyed the sushi and loved the presentation of the rolls to the beautiful black box. I would definitely come back to order more. I've seen these beautiful arrangements on Instagram and have been following Toro Toro religiously since they first opened. Their style of sushi is definitely more lavish than my usual go-to so I've been looking for the right occasion to try them out. The PERFECT PAIR TASTING BOX is what finally convinced me. This tasting Box includes: 6PC Salmon Sashimi 3PC Aburi Syake Oshi 3PC Aburi Maguro Oshi 4PC Shrimp Summer Rolls 4PC Tataki Maki 4PC Fantasy Maki 4PC Forbidden Maki 4PC Crouching Tiger 2PC Teriyaki Flame 2PC Lava Roll 2PC Atomic 2PC Salmon Sushi Tacos As well, you receive two complimentary regular sized bubble teas from The Alley's milk tea series with 1 topping! (Which must be claimed on the same day). Not only is this the most aesthetic sushi I've ever had, but each piece is so well thought out in terms of its components. This leads to a roll so full of flavor and texture! I was surprised by the uniqueness of each and loved that there were many spicy tasters with a nice crunch. You may think this place is on the pricier side, but it really gives a unique tasting experience. Available for $63 pls tax. Only available till May 23rd, so definitely get on it! I highly recommend pre-ordering on their website to help secure your spot as they reach order capacity quickly. I honestly didn't really pay attention to the interior and decor as I was in a rush, but I definitely remember how friendly the staff were.
