Crave Wings is one of the only dine-in wings restaurants I will frequent. I visited Crave Wings during its soft opening when it barely had any of the beautifully drawn manga panels on their walls. Even early on, they had potential that they've grown into successfully!
Crave Wings offers over 150+ flavours that highlight honey based, BBQ, rubs, saucy, and culturally unique flavour profiles that will warm you up to the taste of anime fans. Crave Wings reeled me in as a brand when it featured One Piece branding, an icon system, and even featured some flavours. They name many of their flavours after iconic anime, characters, memes and moments!
The wait time is great on a non-busy day, but I will advise people to be a little patient as later in the evening they get a ton of Uber orders. It's definitely a lot for a restaurant to balance uber orders and dine-ins, despite that the staff catered to my partner and I with the utmost patience and consideration for our time. They always serve us with a smile on their face, greet us at the door, wave us off when we're leaving, and are completely open to suggesting wing flavours.
I am a spice lover so I frequently order the Super Saiyan, Suicide Digger, and have even tried the Taste of Jaffna wings. This place does not kid around with their spice, but I most definitely recommend the Spicy Garlic Parm wings. The Jaffna Fries are the stars of the side menu, as they burst with flavour and seemingly never get old everytime I order them. Both the fries and the wings are crispy, packed with flavour, and always made fresh to order!
I recommend this place not only to anime lovers, but for people who also want to indulge in wings that are made with a lot of love for the community they've built on their own.
Crave Wings is a gem that I was introduced to by a friend of mine who used to live in the area, and the establishment is worth any commute no matter where I am...
Read moreIâm writing this review with a heavy heart because only I know how much I love this place. However, itâs shocking how much the quality of Crave has dropped. It used to be a place that I recommended to all my friends and family as the best wings spot I knew. I used to order wings at least once a week. I canât say that I didnât try to give them a chance and I know every business has its ups and downs. But itâs been months since the quality and service havenât been the same as before. The last few times I went to eat wings with my family, I was kind of disgusted by how awful the restaurant smelled. A week ago I was at the cashier waiting to order my food when I glanced inside the kitchen and saw one of the cooks opening a box of raw wings and throwing it all in the sink. Additionally, the kitchen walls and floor were disgustingly dirty, covered in black grime. I canât bring my family to eat at a place that is so gross and definitely lacking in hygiene. You guys handle food, and people are eating this food. I canât stop imagining if the dining area smelled so bad, how awful the kitchen must be. The quality of the food is also terrible. I have pictures of what they used to serve: high-quality wings, with lots of sauce, juicy, and big. Now, the wings are dry, with no sauce, small, and even the seasoning is not the same. For a moment, I thought it was just me, but Iâve seen lots of complaints about the same exact reasons. If nothing changes, the restaurant will keep going downhill, and the same way it grew so popular, it will become a place where no one...
Read moreI thought I was just ordering wings but what I really got was a mystery.
I am highly skeptical Crave is not paying for reviews or some other kind of manipulative activity because this is so far from a 4.8-star place itâs laughable.
I also think given the similarity of the menus to places like Wow Wing House and Wings n Dip (formerly 6ix Wings) on St Clair, these places are all somehow related. (Case in point: all three serve the same terrible mozzarella sticks with the same Thai dipping sauceâŚhighly unusual.)
The mozzarella sticks (weird tasting mozzarella, barely fried) and coleslaw were horrendous, and the fries are straight out of a McCain freezer bag or similar. None of the three sides got finished, and I always finish my mozzarella sticks.
But onto the main event, the wings. We ordered 3lbs: Kansas Knockout; Super Saiyan; and Sweet Dream Girl.
They were all meaty and nicely sauced, but thatâs about all they had going for them. The Sweet Dream Girl was extremely sweet; the Kansas Knockout was also too sweet; and the Super Saiyan was kind of just like spicy salt. None of these wowed us at all or made us âCraveâ more. They just tasted really cheap and lacked a real depth of flavour.
In addition, the spice levels here are seriously oversold. The âsuicideâ wings would maybe be the equivalent of âmediumâ at Duffâs and the âextra suicideâ are barely any spicier. This is a problem when you are paying for and expecting one thing, but get another.
Negative points for also not serving wings with cruditĂŠs...
