Don't let my rating tell you how great this place is... the line up out the door would be your clearest sign. We arrived on a Saturday early evening and already you can see the line up at the door. We weren't sure if we could fit but we managed. It is a tiny little store but behind the counter there is an army of staff just helping everyone.
Please dont let the line up stop you... it is worth it and the line moves kinda fast. It maybe took us a little under 15 minutes from the door to walking out with our scoops. They have a lot of flavours and it always rotating. I did snap a pic as there's no menu on their website. They something for everyone... ice cream, gelato, sorbet, and frozen yogurt Plus they do give everyone one free topping of a candy. Every little kid was walking out with either sprinkles or gummy bears on their cones. They also offered several types of cones! The traditional one but a lot of people were walking out with the great looking waffle ones. I was tempted but I got a simple cup cause I was still full from dinner!
I was sooo tempted by the ice cream especially the Mercury Espresso but I'm a gelato girl at heart and I was sooo happy to see their gelato not a crazy neon colour (that indicates fake colouring added). So I tried the Amarena Cherry, Tiramisu, and Pistachio.
Amerena Cherry - To me, when cherry is good.. its very very good. it needs a balance of sweet and tart to keep it out of the cough syrup territory. Ed's rendition is quite good... it is a touch more sweet than I'd like but still a great option. 3.5/5
Tiramisu - Ok, this was very good ... creamy with very good moments of espresso flavours and I liked the bit of lady fingers buried in the gelato. Nice one to have 4/5
Pistachio - This is the one that made me try their gelato over their ice cream. It's a muted green that speaks to using real nuts instead of fake neon green powder or dye. This was just great. A true lover of nuts would get this over and over. Strong nutty flavour hits your tongue and stays there after the sweetness subsides. 4.5/5
I haven't tried all the ice cream and gelato in Toronto but Ed's is definitely the real deal...

Read moreEd’s Real Scoop in Leslieville is a must-stop if you love quality ice cream. The moment you step inside, you’re hit with the aroma of fresh waffle cones and the sight of colorful tubs of gelato, sorbet, and ice cream calling your name.
Lisa deserves a special shout-out — she was warm, welcoming, and genuinely took the time to explain the differences between their ice cream, sorbet, and gelato. Her knowledge and enthusiasm added to the experience, and she made it easy to pick the perfect scoop.
The flavors here are incredible. Classics like creamy vanilla bean and rich chocolate are done to perfection, but it’s the adventurous options — like burnt marshmallow, pistachio, mango sorbet, and salted caramel — that make Ed’s really shine. Each scoop is packed with flavor and has that fresh, homemade quality you just can’t get from a grocery store pint.
One tip for first-timers: at the entrance there’s a sign kindly asking that if you’re with a group, only a couple of people head in to place the order. It makes sense, because the shop fills up quickly — but the line moves fast, and trust me, it’s worth the wait.
Between the stellar flavors, the friendly service, and Lisa’s welcoming energy, Ed’s Real Scoop is the kind of neighborhood spot you’ll want to keep coming back to...
