What a breath of Fresh air!
I met up with a few friends for dinner 2 weeks ago and I was the first one to arrive. Upon entering the bartender immediately greeted me and within seconds a young gentleman approached me and seated me immediately. Within a matter of seconds, water was brought to my table for me an my guest and where prompted if we had any questions with regards to the menu. Our waiter took the time to clarify some of our questions and explain the various beers they cater and let me tell you , we weren’t disappointed with the suggestions. We placed our order for drinks and food ( main courses and a few apps) . The drinks came within a blink of an eye, and so did the apps. When the food was delivered, the waiter explained to us what dish was what and when our main courses came we were pleasantly surprised at the generous portions and presentation. The food was fresh, tasty and hot. Throughout our dining experience, our waiter ( I believe his name was Carmello) would periodically check in on us, refilled our waters and catered attentively to each and all our individual needs. Overall, the atmosphere was extremely pleasant, we felt quite at ease and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and our Experience at the Firkin. The staff was very welcoming, attentive, and even sparked up some conversation with us which made the environment much more inclusive. Upon leaving we noticed that they occasionally host Trivia night that happen to be a few days later.
We all decided to return and partake in this fun event. To our surprise, our server greeted us at the door, and though many days went by since our last visit, our waiter remembered us ! This may not seem like a big deal but I grew up in a small town in Europe where everyone knows each other and never experienced this in my many years in Toronto. You could tell that this restaurant is run on pride and they sincerely go out of their way for a wholesome experience. Trivia night was a blast , and learned quite a lot.
We will certainly be back as we have now found our new favorite neighborhood spot with great food, drinks, outstanding atmosphere and above all the quaint friendly and welcoming atmosphere one would expect.
Kuddos to the staff at the Firkin, we...
Read moreI came here after work on Opening night with my wife and the place seems fantastic. The staff are super friendly, the food was delicious (ok it was just a burger but it was cooked right and juicy) with cheese and bacon, fries on the side chased by a pint of beer. The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a Firkin pub, clean and modern with the right "British" accents. Although I'm not in a position to require wheelchair access, this place seems to be wheelchair accessible, which is great seeing that Woodbine subway station will eventually (soon) have an elevator and be an accessible station - situated super close to this bar. Bonus points (although I think businesses are legislated now to be 'accessible).
Aside from a pretty awesome atmosphere, tasty food, a nice selection of beer and drinks, and friendly staff, I'll end with the seating arrangements...
There are an eclectic arrangement of seats. You have two cozy little corners on either side of the front entrance with individual seats (almost cafe like seating) surrounding a small table/chest. Looked like each corner could sit around 6 bodies give or take.
There are seats surrounding the bar (normal and good). There's an adequate sized not-in-your-face TV at the bar as well.
There is a larger more private room with seats that is just down a few steps to the right of the front entrance. Seems like a good place for a large party. This has large (seems like 4-6 seating) tables. Cafeteria style but cooler.
There are also normal tables (high) with high chairs where we sat. Thankfully the tables had foot rests, and it was comfortable.
So there you go. I'll be back since I live in the area, and I think you should check it out and see for...
Read moreWe've lived right here for 5 years and never tried it, so we went today.
I worked as a line cook for over a decade. I cut restaurants a lot of slack. I've never complained about service ever, but this place was the worst restaurant I've ever been to.
Went today with kids. We were sat down, no waters, just empty glasses left on our tables. We had two young kids, we know they had a kids menu, it was even advertised outside. They handed my 3 year old an adult menu. We had to show them the online kids menu, they proceeded to tell us most of it wasnt available. He left after taking our orders, still never even gave us water. They took about 20 minutes to get us our drinks. Again, no water even. I've never had service that didn't at least give you water in my life.
The food was brought out by someone else, better than our server for sure. He at least got us water when we asked. Meal was terrible, tasted old and frozen.
The kids were supposed to get ice cream with their meal, we even confirmed with the server after the mains, so we ordered a dessert to split between my spouse and I. They brought ours and not our kids'. So we caught the other guy and asked about it and he at least brought it out a bit later, after our desert had melted.
Like I said, I've never complained, written a bad review or really ever had anything bad to say about people working in the service industry - but this was embarrasing. Over $100 for a meal way worse than I've had at...
