Good Gang Ice Cream has been around for about two years now. It fits in perfectly among the new generation of ice cream parlours which offer more interesting and unique flavours than more traditional shops.
The reason I wanted to visit Good Gang in particular is because they have a toast flavour, which incorporates swirls of seasonal jams. Previously I never would have considered trying toast ice cream, but once I heard about it the idea lodged itself firmly into my brain, and I knew I had to try it.
We each had a scoop of toast (sourbread dough base with Seville orange marmalade), then I had a scoop of halva rhubarb ripple (white sesame base layered with rhubarb jam and halva) while my partner had "skyr it up" (skyr with mango-amia jam).
My first impression was that the ice cream was aesthetically pleasing: the base flavours have such a creamy white colour, which pairs nicely with the vibrant colours of the jam swirls.
Of course, what matters most is how it tastes, and on that count I am pleased to report that all three flavours we tried were amazing. Toast is a weird flavour for ice cream, no doubt, but it works really well - you get the pleasant crisp of the toast (i.e. that delicious Maillard reaction) without losing the sweetness of the ice cream itself. The jams were all amazing - ice cream is a great way to showcase them.
Overall, Good Gang Ice Cream punches up with the other stalwarts of the new generation of ice cream parlours in Toronto. It's great that they are innovating bold new flavours like toast, fairy bread, and so on.
A few things to note: the hours are very limited (~4-9pm Thursday to Saturday) and there was a big line when we visited. You may want to take a photo of the menu with your phone (they have copies posted all around the downstairs area near the takeout window) to study while you're waiting, so you're ready when it comes time to take your order.
Best of luck to the two sisters who are running the place - I hope you have many...
Read moreThe Good Gang Ice Cream truly delivers one of the best ice cream experiences in Toronto! The extensive menu of ice cream and ice cream sandwiches makes you want to try everything. The variety of ice cream flavours available is impressive, catering to both classic and adventurous taste preferences.
We both ordered the Majicha Brownie and Ca Phe Misu flavours, both were incredible rich and decadent, satisfying our palates. The texture is perfectly creamy, creating a velvety smooth sensation with every bite.
The Majicha, matcha and hojicha tea, had amazing distinct flavours of strong tea taste, both flavours complement each other with the added soft chewing bits of brownies. Eating all three together is like heaven exploding in your mouth, this ice cream was like your typical Ben & Jerry's Icecream but just way better!
The Ca Phe Misu is what all Italians want, tiramisu but it's a ice cream with delicious, strong, mouth water viet coffee syrup. A must try flavour, no need to eat tirimisu and drink coffee seperate when you can have both wonders in this ice cream.
Just a heads up, it's a narrow pathway with steps leading down to the ordering window, it can get quite congested especially when customers have picked up their orders and heading back up to the street. Not everyone in the line is aware/courteous to move slightly over to allow room for folks walking back up without having to rub shoulders or even have someone step backward into someones ice cream.
The Good Gang Ice Cream is a delightful treat for any ice cream lover, come early as the line up starts half an hour to an hour early before opening. Without a doubt a must try artisan ice cream spot, Bang Bang Ice Cream & Bakery got some compitition. We will definitely be back again to try all the other flavours, looking at you Salted Yuzu...
Read moreOn a hot summer day, we found this ice cream shop while exploring a new area. It had great ratings and a long line outside, so we decided to give it a try. The wait was about 5-6 minutes, and although there’s no indoor seating, the place had a steady buzz.
I went with Hazelnut Cardamom and Toast based on the staff’s recommendation. The first bite of Hazelnut Cardamom completely impressed me — bold, well-balanced, and full of flavor. The pairing had a subtle nutty kulfi-like taste that took me right back — rich, familiar, and just delicious. I felt like a happy kid eating ice cream again.
Toast was a total surprise — made with a sourdough base, sour cherry, and white currant jam. Not something you’d expect in an ice cream, but it worked incredibly well. The flavors were layered, creative, and the texture of the ice cream itself was rich and creamy. Everything just came together — the flavors felt like they were dancing.
What really stood out to me was the creativity and boldness of the flavors. As someone who grew up with strong, layered flavors in Indian desserts, I often find ice cream here on the milder side. But this place really pushes the envelope — in a good way. Each scoop felt thoughtful and intentional.
Service was helpful and friendly despite the crowd, and the staff genuinely seemed to know their menu. Prices were fair for the quality and experience.
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the mood for something beyond the usual. Just be ready to wait a few minutes — and maybe try something you wouldn’t...
