We were craving good sushi and karaage recently and based on a solid rating here we decided to give JP Sushi a try. Unfortunately we were not impressed with our experience.

We ordered Agedashi Tofu, Chicken Karaage, two Maki handrolls (butterfish and salmon), and an Unagi Dynamite Roll.

The Agedashi Tofu itself was pretty good, with a nice crisp coating and reasonably firm tofu. But the sauce was far too thick and tasted like it was poured straight out of an off-the-shelf bottle.

The chicken karaage was, in a word, terrible. It evoked memories of thin, frozen chicken strips coated with a very mundane, very non-Japanese breading. This was especially disappointing given that the batter on the Agedashi Tofu proves that they know how to make a decent, Japanese-style batter. All was made even less palatable by being served with what can charitably be described as an off-the-shelf, dill flavoured mustard mayo/sauce. Maybe appropriate for chicken fingers; definitely not appropriate for karaage.

The hand rolls were just OK, while the Unagi Dynamite Roll tasty only tangentially of unagi, wrapped in over-cooked rice and slathered in too much mediocre sauce.

We cannot recommend that you eat there, and we won’t...

Reading the reviews and the high ratings, I was anticipating a really good meal. However, while it was good, it wasn't 5 star rating good. Nothing jumped out as a wow! They do offer chicken karage and it was cooked well, although not as crunchy as I prefer, but hey, I'd rather that then badly cooked like so many other places seem to do it. Presentation wise my food was all crammed into small Styrofoam containers and was all over the place by time I got home. Not a big deal, but some of those little containers were like sushi bombs when I opened them up. The fish was nice and fresh, and maybe this was a one off, but my salmon seemed... almost like it had been a bit butchered up. Still very good, but just oddly textured at times. Parking is on the street only and can be a bit annoying to find (the area is very residential) so if they added a food delivery service it would make things easier. The restaurant offers a small seating area that can open up during the day, which is...

💎Hidden Gem alert 💎

In the bustling food scene of Toronto, it's easy to overlook hidden gems like JP Sushi. Tucked away, this unassuming restaurant offers a culinary experience that goes beyond the ordinary.

Their menu extends far beyond the classic maki roll, showcasing a diverse range of dishes. The sushi pizza, a decadent delight, was a particular standout, impressing everyone at the table.

The sushi rolls were all exceptional, each bite a testament to the freshness and care put into their preparation. The teriyaki bulgogi was another highlight, a flavorful and satisfying dish.

The best part? The incredibly reasonable prices for the generous portions. It's no wonder we can't wait to return to JP Sushi and explore more of their delicious...

I love this place. I used to work in the area at the intersection of Jane and Annette and I honestly always passed by without noticing it. So on Thanksgiving Sunday weekend, my boyfriend and I decided we weren't in the mood for the only thing opened that day (McDonalds...bleh) and were thrilled to find a sushi place a couple blocks from his place. Its a small cozy restaurant, but the quality of the food makes up for it. Sushi is soft, flavourful abd delicious. It may sound pretentious, but even the rice itself was fragrant and added to the overall taste experience. We definately will be returning. Bonus points because the staff are very nice too! Thanks JP Sushi!

Very cozy little sushi restaurant. Service was polite and attentive. Food was good. Ordered the sashimi dinner, soft shell crab and veggie bento box. Fish was fresh and portions were generous. Great presentation as you can see from the pics. Miso soup was very tasty. The salad was good, nice dressing with a bite and tang. The crab was delish and crunchy. Prices were very fair. Highly recommend this little sushi restaurant that you could easily drive by and not notice.
