At Lucullus Bakery on 5200 Yonge Street in Toronto, my girlfriend, five friends from Ryerson University, and I had a delightful brunch experience. This Chinese Bakery boasts an impressive variety of bread and beverage options, making our visit truly memorable. Our order was a feast for the senses, with a total of six different breads and six different beverages. The range of choices allowed us to explore a diverse array of flavors. From the classic and comforting Hong Kong Style Milk Tea to the zesty and refreshing Lemon Tea, each beverage was a unique treat. The Honey Lemon Ginger Tea offered a comforting warmth, while the Milk Taro surprised us with its creamy and delightful taste. The selection of breads was equally impressive. The variety of stuffed breads and traditional options added a sense of adventure to our meal. The textures and flavors of the breads showcased the bakery's craftsmanship and attention to detail. Overall, our experience at Lucullus Bakery was a delightful culinary journey. The ambiance was welcoming, and the staff was attentive and friendly. While I rate our experience with four stars, I believe that Lucullus Bakery offers a unique and flavorful experience that is worth a visit for anyone looking to explore Chinese Bakery delights in Toronto.

Why i love this place. An absolutely warm and inviting place to sit quietly or enjoy with friends and family. Lucullus has friendly and hard working staff baking fresh every day. They offer freshly baked delicious almond/chocolate/cheese croissants, plain buns or with spinach, some savoury sweet, some filled with beef curry, chicken hotdogs, chocolate, buttery and satisfying, and many, many more. Certainly a place of discovery each time. The cakes and cake desserts look amazing and are next on my list to taste. You get to pick your own items and take to cashier. No tax if you buy 6 baked goods for now. They seal each item for you. Paper bags are extra or bring your own carrying bag. They offer coffee, tea and have a few food dishes on the menu to eat there or for takeout. They have ample tables to sit and enjoy a relaxing time out of one’s busy day. I feel so relaxed and just dial down the tension there surrounded by beautiful fresh smells of baked goods that reminds me of my mom’s kitchen when i was younger. Its an easy walk over if you live in the area. The North York subway is a 2-minute or less walk over. There is paid parking on Yonge street. A most wonderful addition to the neighbourhood quality of life and supportive of a work-life balance lifestyle.

Bought a large Hong Kong Style milk tea and a Hong Kong Style Coconut Bun (雞尾包) for $9.65. Wanted to pay with cash to avoid transaction fees as I was travelling, but they didn’t have enough change. This bakery was rather small and does not have a ton of selections for buns, but if you’re looking for the typical buns that a Hong Kong bakery has, they have them. The coconut bun was very mid, dry on the exterior and does not have a lot of filling on the interior. The milk tea on the other hand was great, they hand pour everything right after you buy the drink instead of pre-mixing them, which gives you the option to customise your liking of ice and sugar. Not much to complain about the milk tea besides the fact that, it was extremely hard to poke open the plastic film as the straw does not have a sharp tip. They currently don’t have any indoor or outdoor seatings, so just take out only. Overall, mid, would go to somewhere else for better selection, price and environment.

Lucullus Bakery is a well known Chinese bakery with multiple locations around the GTA. They recently opened their 5200 Yonge Street (near Yonge/Empress) location quite recently where they offer a variety of buns, drinks, and even lunch boxes. You can even buy frozen lunch boxes to make at home as well. The location is small but the interior is quite modern. There are several tables indoors and more tables outside on their patio which is covered with yellow umbrellas. Bakery is well known to the Chinese community where this location will be well received in the neighbourhood.

I stopped by Lucullus on a hot Sunday afternoon to purchase some refreshing iced drinks. I've tried a variety of their Chinese buns from their other stores and was happy to see other offerings as well, such as croissants and frozen meal boxes as well as premade sandwiches. Upon entering, you are met with the smell of freshly baked buns (I could even smell through my mask!). Trays and tongs are available once you enter so that you can walk around to choose your buns. They do make things throughout the day so if you do find something sold out, you can try to come back to see if they have made more. Only thing to point out is that the buns are not covered with anything so they can work on that from a sanitary perspective.

Service was friendly and prompt as I ordered my iced drinks at the counter. Drinks were made at a reasonable time. During my visit at Lucullus the bakery definitely got busy as more people came into purchase their offerings.

Overall, a great new addition to the...

I decided to visit this location since I’m a regular at their Markham branch. While I’ve always found their prices higher than other Asian bakeries, their milk tea is definitely worth the extra cost, so I’ve been happy to pay more for their buns. Unfortunately, this location needs some improvement.

BUNS were disappointing—they were flat, likely underproofed, and unevenly baked. The texture of the bread was also off, lacking the usual fluffiness, which again points to underproofing. Even the outer layer of the bun was unevenly baked, with some parts more browned than others.

TEA - On the plus side, the milk tea was still delicious.

CLEANLINESS - the self-serve area for customizing your drink was poorly maintained. The sugar spoon was dirty, the sugar container was nearly empty, and the lid didn’t fit properly on the cup, which led to spills—definitely something to watch out for.

SERVICE - there was no greeting, no smile—just the typical indifferent attitude you’d expect from a young staff member who didn’t seem to want to be there. The dirty counters also reflected this lack of enthusiasm.

OVERALL- this visit was a letdown. I’m surprised the franchise allows such poor product quality and service under their brand. Hopefully, they can address these issues soon.

Didn’t take any pictures of the bins to post here, cause I was busy cleaning the tea stains off my...
