Mashu Mashu Mediterranean Grill — Restaurant in Toronto

The food here is undeniably good, the fish was perfectly cooked, the vegetables beautifully seasoned, and the baked shrimp creamy and flavorful. But in hospitality, food alone is never enough. What truly defines a restaurant is how it makes guests feel. And on that front, I left quite neglected.

As a restaurant manager with over twenty years in the hospitality industry, I fully understand that not every restaurant delivers high end service. I also recognize that this is a neighborhood restaurant, but even so, there is a baseline standard that should be met. Service should make guests feel seen and cared for, and unfortunately, that was not my experience.

I was sitting for quite some time before anyone even approached the table. When the server finally came over, the first thing he asked was if I wanted a menu, which struck me as odd.. why else would I be sitting at a table? I explained it was my first time dining there and asked for recommendations. I pointed at several dishes and asked if they were good. I decided on the trout as a main and the baked shrimp for an appetizer, and I also ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

While I was still eating my appetizer, my entrée was dropped.. The baked shrimp was quite creamy and heavy, and I would have appreciated some time between courses. I had no choice but to start eating my main course while still working on my starter. Perhaps in the future, the server could ask guests if they want their appetizer and main course served together or separately. Nonetheless, I truly enjoyed the food.

No one asked if I’d like another glass of wine. When my plate was cleared, no one offered dessert or coffee. No one even returned to present the bill.. I had to go inside and request it for myself, only to find my server sitting at the bar.

I would have understood if the room had been packed, but there was only one table inside that was on their way out.

These steps of service are not minor details, they are what create the guest experience. When they’re missing, it doesn’t just show poor training, it shows a lack of care.

And if anything, the server also missed out on maximizing the bill! I would have easily spent at least thirty dollars more on another beverage, dessert and a digestif or tea..

The team would greatly benefit from making sure these service steps are incorporated into their sequence, creating a more balanced and thoughtful experience.

The food may have been good, but hospitality without care is hollow. No matter how good the food is, a restaurant without care is not worth...

I absolutely love Mashu Mashu Mediterranean Grill! I have frequented this restaurant numerous times and each visit never fails to impress me. The food is nothing short of amazing, offering a delicious and authentic Mediterranean dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you are warmly greeted by the friendly and attentive team. The menu at Mashu Mashu is a treasure trove of Mediterranean delights. From their perfectly seasoned grilled meats to their flavorful vegetarian options, each dish is a masterpiece. The freshness of the ingredients used is evident in every bite, and the attention to detail in the presentation is outstanding. One of my personal favorites is their lamb.The tender, marinated lamb is thinly sliced and served with a variety of fresh toppings and their mouthwatering tzatziki sauce. Every bite is bursting with flavor, and it's simply irresistible. Apart from the main courses, the appetizers and sides are equally delightful. The hummus is creamy, the falafels are crispy, and the grilled vegetables are perfectly charred. It's a culinary journey through the Mediterranean, right in the heart of the restaurant. Mashu Mashu Mediterranean Grill truly stands out for providing an exceptional dining experience. The atmosphere, the team's friendly and attentive service, and most importantly, the amazing food, make it a restaurant worth visiting time and time again. Last Night, was my first time trying MASHU MASHU.

It was for a friend’s birthday dinner. Originally, I thought mistakenly that this was some sort of Asian restaurant. If you have ever watched the highly successful RUSH HOUR movie series staring Jackie Chan & Chris Tucker there are multiple scenes where he mentions Mushu LOL.

Anyhow, I was surprised to find that MASHU MASHU is in fact a Modern Mediterranean Fusion Restaurant. There were 10 of us in our group and we opted to try the Land & Sea Chef’s Experience.

I have to say the Chef’s Experience was truly a remarkable culinarily experience. The food was fresh & expertly prepared and plated. The service was friendly and attentive. We were there for almost 3 hours. Course after course was brought out. The interior of the restaurant was warm and welcoming and they had good music playing adding to the positive atmosphere.

The food and the hospitality were truly remarkable. Not once did we feel rushed. Our group was the last one there and we did not leave till around 11:30pm.

At the end of our meal. The Chef & Owner Eni brought out a bottle of tequila and shot glasses to celebrate our friend’s birthday with a complimentary round of tequila shots. He truly went the extra mile to honour all of us with this kind gesture.

I wish I took photos of all the courses but I can tell you they were all very good. I highly recommend MASHU MASHU especially the Chef’s Experience! Chef Eni and his team truly care about quality, they care about service and they care about providing an amazing culinary experience and it shows. If you’re in the neighbourhood this is the place to try.
