Great Authentic Italian cuisine. It's right across from the Scotia bank located on the North West corner of Spadina and Lonsdale. The food is absolutely delicious! If you order a bottle of wine the waiters will refill your glass for you when it becomes empty. Yes, they pour your wine for you and if you'd like salt or pepper on your main or any dish, one of the kind gentlemen will come over with a giant wooden grinder and graciously kick your food up a notch. They make you feel either a little awkward or like a somebody. The pizza is really good!. It's my favorite. Last time I went I ordered the special which was a whole fish with bokchoy. The fish tasted good but they didn't scale it and they didn't clean the gills out either. So I did not enjoy it much. So just a caution, if you don't mind sorting through scales in your mouth and the actual fish you wanna eat, then go for the whole fish option when it's available. Otherwise you'll be quite happy with the many kinds of pastas and pizzas they have. Also it's a bit pricy. No restaurant that insists you shouldn't lift a hand to fill your own glass with the bottle that is inches away from you and feet from their waiters is going to be cheap. That fish meal that I didn't enjoy was $37, the glass of rosé was $12x2, the soup of the day was $18x2, and the pizza (Forest Hill) was $20.95, and the Capellini my wife ordered was $21.95. Before taxes the total was $121.90. After taxes was $137.75. So as you can see, it is a bit pricy but it is super delicious which is why I don't mind and come prepared to spend whenever I go there. Now I'm still giving Banfi 5 stars because I've been going there since 2012 and I've only had a not so pleasant experience once with the fish I spoke of above on April 27th of 2019. One disappointment in 7 years seems like a pretty good track record to me and warrants no justifiable reason to drop their score. And other than that one incident, I've been very pleased with the quality of their food and service throughout the years. This is a great place for Anniversaries, romantic dinners proposal's, birthdays and even for family. There isn't lots of seats, it's not a huge place but it's cozy and nice. And if you don't wanna stand or wait to be seated, get there right when it opens. Which reminds me, they have a European model for their hours of operation. 11:30am - 2:30pm then 5pm - 11pm. So they close down for 2.5 hrs after lunch. So get there on time to get seated. Within 30min of opening that place is full. Hope...
Read moreMy daughter and her husband booked their wedding reception here for 35 people. While the restaurant is small, we all fit beautifully - and in very comfortable chairs I might add.
The food was traditionally Italian and of a super high quality, and beautifully laid out: plates of bruschetta for starters and then several platters of seafood and antipasti were brought to each of the 7 group tables.
For the pasta course: cannelloni, which my brother said was among the best he had ever eaten. I am severely gluten intolerant so they customized a penne plate for me with lots of veggies - delicious.
Then came a choice of Osso Bucco or salmon, or a vegetarian plate. I chose the salmon which was a HUGE and perfect portion with lovely mango and baby tomato bits as a sauce. It was perfectly seared, served alongside baby carrots and grilled asparagus. Bottled flat and sparkling water was served, alongside choices of wine.
For dessert we had a customized gluten free wedding cake delivered, and they placed it on a dedicated table in the corner of the room near the light - beautiful. Servers sliced and plated it at no extra charge. Guests also ordered digestifs; our table had Amaretto with large orange slices - wow!
Everything was brilliant and service was impeccable - wine and water glasses were refilled and plates were cleared at a comfortable pace. Staff was super professional and chatted with us in a friendly manner.
Few receptions are planned in small neighbourhood restaurants as people often turn to banquet halls or wedding-specific venues. Several guests said this is what they would choose for their future weddings.
Thanks Banfi back-and-front-of-house staff - and owner! My daughter was elated as everything went so well and the restaurant was beautifully set up with traditional thick crisp white linen tablecloths and huge linen napkins - so classy.
On each table was a glass with a large sprig of freesia in it - Banfi didn't know this, but that was the [memorial] flower of the day - and in my daughter's bridal...
Read moreA lovely experience at our local Forest Hill Village Italian Restaurant #PizzaBanfi . Reservations are strongly encouraged, and we tried to make one but we ended up going there anyway and waited for a table to open. We were treated very well, and received some complimentary #Bruschetta which was brimming with #Garlic and fresh tomatoes, as we waited at the bar area. When a table opened we had great personal service and great conversation with the wait staff. We ordered a lovely Sangiovese red wine to go with the meal. The #wine was a great way to start, and then added to the lovely flavors of the meal. My husband ordered the #PennePollo Chicken, sun dried tomatoes in a pesto cream sauce. It was fabulous. Great flavor and a lovely, creamy basil sauce. I ordered the #LinguiniLimone Olive oil and lemon juice, with basil and fresh grated parmigiano. Lemon zest gave great lemon flavor and the tang from the cheese was delightful. My husband loved trying my linguini that he said he’d get it on out next visit. The food was so fresh and flavorful even when made with simple ingredients. Definitely will want to return to Pizza Banfi and try more dishes, drink more wine, and experience the great...
