My walking buddy Pam, wanted to do the October 6th, Sunday, 2024, Cibc walk to cure cancer (or whatever their branding logo is 🙏)- but with her new colleagues at work- so I registered online for the Run Anywhere 5k thinking I might run by myself somewhere pleasant...
My mother got wind of this so she registered for the 5k walk in person which turns out started at Sir Winston Churchill Park- which I had to Google because to me it was always just the big park at St Clair and Spadina...
So, on the day, roads were closed all around, so my mom parked at my brother's house, near to Spadina Village(I refer to this as 'V-gina Village myself because it is loaded with the Lululemon set drinking lattes at Starbucks, sushi burrito at Edo, frozen yogurt at the just ok corner place, and more banks than should be reasonable for the footage-❤️🤣😁lol!
Sidenote: AND the police kindly gave my mom a $200 parking ticket for parking in front of my brother's house because she did not want to block their cars in- thank you lower forest hill green onion parking ticket officer for not supporting the massive charity event my mom and I started doing maybe 33 years ago- thanks so much...
Back to the park:so we walked to Sir Winston Churchill Park and there were a wondrous amount of people in a sea of pink like pepto bismol coated the crowd and booths and trucks with smoothies and free mini clif bars for energy and wow it was pretty nice and thank you to this wonderful park for allowing us all to trample on your green grass and enjoy some rest from/in this dingy dirty concrete soulless city we live in...
sorry for the negatives🙏...
Our parks are our best asset...Our parks have trees and green grass and water and animals like birds and more...
Our parks are where we rest and meditate and feel free and they are free and a bench is nice when are legs are tired from running or walking...
My mom took me to this park when I was 4 or 5 and I sledded down the side, the steeper side that faces Spadina and the snow was clean and not many cars...
I walk and run through the ravine below and at times say hello to the dogs in the dog park or on the trails and sometimes I pat them if the dog lets me ❤️😁!
Photo: this is a photo of my mom- she is wonderful...And thanks for coming with me to this nice park event last Sunday! I needed a friend to go with me! Note: I think it is safer to go through parks with another person than all by yourself- if you are all by yourself I recommend sticking to daylight times- when it is dark in the morning or night you can trip and fall, there are possibly scary things or scary people, and it is not really completely safe anymore- also apparently coyotes can eat outdoor cats so think twice about letting your...
Read moreOne of the most spacious parks I've ever visited! Camped area, with space for picnic, for children and adults to play ball, possible to take water for children to play, having a space like this is quality of life.
The place also has a tennis court, a place to rent rackets and to buy water and other liquids such as juices and snacks.
The playground area is very spacious and the toys are very well maintained. The public restrooms are always clean, and the drinking fountains for people and pets are always clean. The trail area is really nice and the courts are always well organized. The park has an area to put our bikes and many trash cans scattered around the area. (The restrooms are accessible to serve the physically disabled population)
The park is within easy reach of bus stops, as well as a few minutes from a museum...
Read moreI gave this a temporary 1 star because the park has been demolished to repair the reservoir below.
This historic place is a park built on top of a major water reservoir. Water is pumped all the way up from Lake Ontario (via water purification plants) to the Sir Winston Churchill Reservoir. Normally there are tennis courts and a off leash dog run and a great view from just below Spadina and St. Clair West...but it is all a muddy re-construction site and everything is an awful mess.
It won't be restored for another year or so.
Apparently World War I veterans guarded the reservoir 7-days a week during World War II, in response the German threats...
