January 30th, 2021 at 8:35 pm: When I try a restaurant for the first time, whether something is missing, the taste is off or the quantity is small, I will usually give them a pass and just move on. I hate to write negative reviews about small businesses, especially during this unprecedented pandemic where they are undoubtedly struggling in one way or another. But something I will never tolerate is lack of respect and consideration for the customer. We're not talking customer service here, we're talking basic humanity. Your phone line says you close at 9:30 pm on Saturdays, your sign says 9 pm, yet myself and another customer were here just before 8:35 pm and the door was locked. Had the lights been off at that time, then who knows, maybe there was an emergency of some sorts: that gets a pass - I wouldn't have bothered with writing anything here. But there were no less than 3 people in that tiny building talking to one another by the kitchen. I politely knocked on the window and called their attention - one of them made eye contact with the other customer and didn't say a thing! They could've just said "we close at X time now" and I might have still given them a pass, despite driving all the way from Mississauga to try their cuisine and having had to park a block away (no space to park on any of the nearby streets). It takes 2 seconds and very little material and effort to write a sign with updated hours if you can't or do not want to update your phone line or communicate with...
Read moreThis Mr. jerk is one of my favourites and authentic to the taste. It's been around forever 20+ years, maybe more. The oxtail, Jerk pork, jerk chicken - the seasoning is tasty, balanced, and the meat is tender, and juicy (crispy on pork edges). The coleslaw is vinegar based, not too tangy - very good. The ackee and salt fish is good, not too salty. Festival balls are soft and crispy, not too oily. The cod fritters are tasty but they are very oily unfortunately. Patties are great. The customer service is amazing. They also threw in a free "Pink Ting" (sparking grapefruit drink) last time I visited. Another time when they forgot to include the coleslaw, someone dropped it off at my address which was very much appreciated. This is my local Carribean spot but IMO one of the best...
Read moreSee heres the thing. Ive been eating rotis everyehere for 40 years.
Mr. Jerk has been doing it since they were on dundas and yonge like waay back in the day. Their rotis are good in the way that its generously filled w a tasty sauce and lots of dark chix meat and potatoes. But the drawback is they dont make their skins in house, and they nuke their dalpooris.
Rori royale, on Bathurst once upon a time was like the best. They made their own dalpooiris a la minute, and the stuffing of chix and potato was fire. Like that. They closed long ago. Ghandi on queen is great. The curry inside the roti is sublime. However the product has a really limited amount of protein. In the case of their chix roti, theres really only a bit of pulled chix breast. Alberts on...
