No. 1 Jerk — Restaurant in Toronto

No. 1 Star.

Didn't want pizza and the Chinese restaurant was closed so I decided to go to this place. In my mind I was saying that at least it's West Indian food and I preferred that over pizza any day....ANY DAY BUT TODAY! I wish I just stuck to the pizza I bought for my child. I'm not a person to bash an establishment like this...ESPECIALLY from my own cultural background but it was probably the worst place I've been to in Scarborough in regards of the food alone. My rating is not for anything else but the food.

The rice was mushy (I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere in the reviews as well) Without the tastless gravy on top of that rice, it still needed salt. The fried chicken was alright and the two plantain that I got (BTW I was so happy to see them in there and so excited to eat them) were dry. Guessing they were fried earlier in the day. I came around 5pm. Love coleslaw but wasn't a fan of the one given to me.

Would have given 2 more stars if it didn't send me to the bathroom

My first experience wasn't too great. I ordered a medium curry chicken and as I waited, I hear a microwave as my food is being prepared. I'm not sure if my order was microwaved-prepared or not, but I got a little suspicious how my food was served. When I tried the curry chicken, it was full of bones as I tried eating the chicken meat. I had to keep spitting out bones every time I take a bite. The vegetables also had hard stems as I try to eat.

Didn't really have a good experience here. Colesaw was okay, but didn't bother finishing up the rest of my food. Bony chicken made it difficult to eat and enjoy the food. Can't really trust how the food...

I've been a couple times now after popping in on a whim and honestly it's really nice. Keep in mind I've never really been a fan of jerk chicken, I don't like spice for the sake of being hot, but this place makes it nice and flavorful. I order the $7 student special of jerk chicken, rice & peas, coleslaw and water, and frankly the portion is big enough that me and my mum split it when we go for a walk. The rice is delicious and the food is always nice and hot. The owner is super nice too, makes going to a new place that much easier. I see they get mixed reviews but frankly I haven't had any issues, I really enjoy when I do go...
