I absolutely LOVE Indian food and this is EASILY the best Indian food in the entire GTA. I've tried dozens of Indian restaurants (even outside of the GTA) and this is hands down the best Indian cuisine that you'll probably ever find. The food is impeccably divine and the service is excellent - very friendly and knowledgeable service staff. Also, the prices can't be beat. The quality of food is excellent yet the prices are definitely reasonable. I always order the same thing: I get the Combo Platter which comes with 2 different types of chicken as well as fish, shrimp and lamb. You can get it mild, moderately spicy, spicy or extremely spicy. I've tried mild, moderate and spicy. I have no idea how spicy the extremely spicy option is but what I can tell you is that I adore spicy food and am really used to it yet I found the moderately spicy and especially the spicy options to be what I would consider to be EXTREMELY spicy so just be forewarned that the chef is quite liberal in using spicy seasonings. The juicy tenderness of the chicken and fish makes for a deliciously succulent dish and I always get the Combo Platter with a side of regular, garlic and rosemary naan. My sister-in-law always orders their vegan options and can never stop raving about how good it is. Their Mango Lassi is also quite good and worth a shot. It's not the best Mango Lassi I've ever had but it's still quite tasty and refreshing. We've honestly never had any of the desserts because we either have dessert at the Dairy Queen across the street during our summer visits (the Dairy Queen is only open during the summer months) or we're simply too stuffed from our hors d'oeuvres and main courses to even consider anything sweet by the end of our meal. The one issue is seating if you're with a large party since it isn't a large restaurant. If you've got a large party then I definitely suggest calling ahead and making a reservation so that they can alter their seating plan to appropriately accomodate you. Other than that - nice decor, outstanding cuisine, excellent service and prices that can't be...
Read moreUpdate as of March 25: I wanted to update my review below to say that I receive a call from Raj the owner of Vindaloo who has invited us back to have a meal in the restaurant as an apology for the bad experience. This is definitely worth another star and another visit to Vindaloo. I will update to 5 stars if it goes well.
Previous review March 24: I really wanted to give this place 5 stars as the food was really tasty but I hope that this bit of constructive criticism will help the owners make a few improvements.
When I order Indian food I usually order a few dishes and everyone shares but all of the dishes we ordered had very little meat and were mostly sweet pepper which (I am no expert) but I found unusual as the versions I have had in the past contained no peppers and I found them to be just a filler in replacement of the meat. There was not enough chicken in the Tikka Masala for each of us to have 2 pices. We also ordered lamb vindaloo (always my favorite) but the meat honestly had little lamb flavour and I’m not sure if it was either cooked too long or it may have been beef however the sauce was delicious and well spiced. Also when ordering online the descriptions said nothing about a portion of rice coming with each dish and we wasted money on purchasing extra. The prices were in line with most other similar restaurants however we expected the portion sizes to be more like Chinese style food. The most disappointing was the scallops which I believe was $15+ and we got 3 scallops and mostly green and red peppers.
The food was honestly really tasty but sadly for nearly $100 seemed to fall short with...
Read moreI finally got around to leaving a review from my new year take out experience. I ordered online with a specified pick-up time. However, I ended up waiting 40min in their restaurant to pick-up. The front desk is so disorganized it's like they don't actually know how to manage orders and customers. They kept asking everyone's name every 5 minutes and being completely lost. I told the person my name like 15 times while I was there because he just had no idea how to prioritize and manage a restaurant. Everyone was frustrated because they just don't know how to track the orders. Another customer told me they usually call because they experienced having their orders not go through with their online system. It's too bad because the food is fine but their service is horrible. Order from this place on a slow day and don't count on it on a busy Friday or Sat evening take out. They also mistakenly swapped the spice level on my order so my partner wasn't happy with her meal (she wanted mild and got spicy). But I didn't want to go back and wait in line for another 40min for it to be fixed as I was already late getting home.
The staff in their kitchen clearly wasn't wearing masks either. Another customer saw that and was so furious and I had to calm him down even though I completely agreed with him. He was also frustrated because he had been there waiting...
