Arrived Friday at 630PM, with my wife and sister-in-law, prior to dinner reservation at 7 PM downstairs. Only 2 other ppl present. I ordered a gin martini (no particular gin), and the ladies ordered a Kir Royale each. It became clear the restaurant and Secrette are not the same, as it was not possible for us to have the tab or our drinks transferred from Secrette to the restaurant by us, or the staff - so we had to finish our drinks and close the tab before leaving. I attach the bill for three hastily consumed cocktails...$122.04 plus 15% tip was $140.00 for three drinks. I couldn't believe it, so I asked if there was a mistake. My martini was $38.00 ($43 with tip). I was charged for 2 shots of gin at $19 each - and asked why I was charged twice for a single drink. It was explained that the martini was a three ounce cocktail, and the shots were 1.5 oz (otherwise, I assume, I would have been charged THREE times for the cocktail). The wait staff (who is NOT the name on this chit) had never heard of Aviation gin, for instance, and this decreased their credibility in trying to defend why the martini was priced and charged as it was. We've travelled, and had drinks at places like the Connaught, and George V, and a $50 bill for a single drink in those places is a bit different; you're not in a dark attic on Queen Street. I called George restaurant the next day just to let the management know my thoughts on the pricing - no apologies, the pricing is as intended. They say you can shear a sheep many times, but you can only skin them once. Feeling skinned. Won't be back.

Food and cocktails were amazing, best G&T I’ve had in awhile. The aromatics of each cocktail was a breath of fresh air. Beef tartare was also very delicious but my friends and I could not get ourselves to order more food or drinks because our waitress/bartender was absolutely terrible (blonde hair girl with an overseas accent). Upon arrival, I checked in at the bar and the girl, who I later know to also be our server looked very annoyed with me because she had to walk us to our table. There were 5 of us and we were starving for apps BUT she gave us a very small coffee table with 4 chairs and basically told us to figure out the 5th chair situation. My spouse just took a stool from another vacant space to make it work. By that time, my group really wanted to leave but we really craved for drinks after a long day. Cocktails came out after 15 minutes of ordering and when our waitress placed our drinks on the table, she expected us to move things around for her and she was very rude about it. Overall, the decors and the ambiance of the speakeasy was nice but the customer service from this one girl was very off putting- she almost ruined NYE for the all of us. Stay away from this speakeasy if you appreciate good customer service, otherwise, you’ll leave this place feeling angry for spending an insane amount of money being mistreated by a waitress who obviously hates her job.

When exploring speakeasy places in the city, Secrette is a must visit gem. The vibe is inviting, when entering the space you are transported to a comfortable 1900s lounge with accents of modern art deco and lighting. Experiencing the cocktails immerses you into the space. Lesley at the bar is an Alchemist, he takes care in his craft. A selection of drinks that are light and playful to spirit forward rich cocktails. He is knowledgeable and enjoys sharing his craft. Always look forward to talking to him and learning how things are made. The service has been friendly and attentive. Although very open, they know when to respect your intimacy and when to check on you. However, because it has an intimate vibe if you need something just wave or walk up to the bar. I find they are always receptive and happy to help. The tapas change from time to time. On our most recent visit, we had fried Zucchini Flowers, sweet potato fries, and chicken satay. All were good and a perfect portion for sharing between two people. The Zucchini Flowers are a must try!
