With service like this at 8 am on a Saturday, I can totally see why there is a steady stream of yelp praise and customers coming through the door. It's not near the downtown core but off to the East side in Corktown and just north of St Lawrence Market. It is worth the extra few minutes to get a drink here.
The cafe isn't very big but what counts is the service and the taste. The baristas here are not just polite but they're truly friendly and you can see it in the conversation they have with regulars here. It helps to have a hilarious write up on the wall about each barista's turn on. Nurses outfit ... lol.
You could relax here and enjoy your cup... there are a few stools to sit on. The place allows a lot of light so it's a nice bright place. And to order is very easy... there's at least two people working and they are continually moving the line of sleepy people to their morning caffeine kick.
One great thing is that they offer 3 types of beans to try for your espresso. The barista can help you choose which ones depending on your taste preference. I was asking for a low acidity espresso and they recommend the Diablo one.
Flat White with Almond milk - good balance of milk to espresso. I really liked how the beans had low acidity ... I'd probably try another bean next time for a bolder flavour. While I liked this a lot, I almost felt it was a light roast. I'm partial to darker roast. 4/5
With so many coffee options, how do separate yourself? Well one thing Fahrenheit did really well ... offer a genuine real conversation and possibly one of the friendliest interactions with a barista. It's as simple as saying "did you like the Diablo beans in the flat white?" And my answer is a certain yes but not as much as I liked the service. I'd be happy to...
Read moreUsed to be one of the best (and very few) spots in which to get a proper espresso in Toronto. Also because it's sadly difficult to find good espresso in the city. Especially after the devastating pandemic. Unfortunately, they eyeball the dry dose which makes the coffee prone to variance and inconsistency. Some shots are sweet, some come out quite bitter.
Was surprised at the advertised tasting note of "roasted pepper" as well the shoddy sign. (Photo attached). They could, in all fairness, take the time to write it properly.
Furthermore, notes like roasted pepper are not favourable marks of specialty coffee. I don't expect Int'l CoE coffees, but for what they charge for an espresso, it should at least be sweet, hopefully complex and consistent.
No sparkling water available which is disappointing, especially considering the low quality and taste of Toronto tap water.
This may seem exacting or even harsh, but I care about this place and city and would love for things to improve here as this city's underachieving food and beverage culture has the potential for being world-class.
Service is always great. Staff are lovely, humble, warm and courteous.
I will still recommend this place to newcomers to the city, and to support smaller local businesses over the Frankenstein that is...
Read moreOne of the worst coffee experience ever. I've had an espresso in all 4 continents, from famously renowned cafés worldwide to small local coffee shops, never ever in my life I was told an espresso was not made to go, and that it was against their policy!! At first I thought it was a joke, like when do you ever hear something like that, and the funny thing is that the gen z hispter server there who clearly doesn't seems like he's been outside ontario or perhaps north America at best, firmly debating their coffee policy and like that's how serving coffee should be, and how the rest of people around the world did not know how to drink their espresso!! Hahaha Like for real?? I was baffled! The scene could have easily slided in one of Seinfeld episodes! And also one more thing, you can invent whatever policy you like, it's your coffee place, or you guys trying to be original or whatever, but if you want to make people stay in, at least make it like a decent place, not a corner of a unit with no proper seats, furniture that looks like it was collected from a dumpster site and a half built kitchen, facing one of the sketchiest street intersections of toronto! The whole place doesn't even seem to have proper sanitation. And as for the espresso, it was mediocre at...
