Local bar with delicious cocktails made by experienced bar tenders, Ashley (the owner) and Paul. The other regulars are Aysha, Daniel and Tara. After experiencing many other Toronto cocktail bars, this one's my favorite because I find their drinks to have the most balance, of flavours and liquor (including the delicate touch of bitters instead of it overwhelming the drink). Best cocktails at cheaper prices then most, IMO. My favourites/ best mixes, listed from cheapest to most expensive, regular prices before taxes are: Cosmopolitan $13, Paloma $13, Traditional Margarita $14, New York Sour $14 and Black Manhattan $17 (made with Paul's special black cherries). They always have drink discounts, happy hour, etc. Atmosphere is eclectic and cozy without being pretentious. It's a red, dim, candle-lit space with trippy wallpaper. The crowed is multicultural which is nice. The bar sign "Super Bargain" has a history to it - just ask. There are different events that take place there like Paint Night, Trivia, Drag Bingo, Friday DJ, Oyster Night, etc. They have free pop-corn and snacks for purchase and you can order from Blondie's Pizza and maybe other establishments in the area. The only "negatives" are, wipe the wetness around the bar area where the customers are sitting. Also have more oysters so it doesn't run out half hour after the oyster special is started, a bit rediculous. I still...
Read moreWhile we were chilling at Sous Sol (the underground Speakeasy bar) at Maison Selby, we decided to find another nearby place and drink some more. The Google search led us to this cocktail bar called "Super Bargain". The name sounds interesting and apparently, its name is originated from the fact the previous vendors at this location was a bargain convenience store.
So, the owners decided to keep the old convenience store as decor and named after the store as well. When you walked in, the beautiful wallpaper and funky mixed and match furniture made this a low-key but cozy, relaxing spot. It serves snack bites and a list of craft beer and cocktails. They have a list of about 10 cocktails and all of them priced at a respectable price of $12. In particular, the Oaxaca Ol' Fashioned is one of the popular drinks.
The staff are friendly, playing a variety of old school music and it's a really good spot for date night or...
Read moreThe spot is truly a gem for the Cabbagetown neighbourhood!! Super fun place with a great mix of folks, awesome drinks, and you could argue that their ice is better because it’s extra cold, not to mention a pretty sweet selection of candy!
No offence to any of the other staff, but Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday one of the best bartenders in the city is behind the bar. His nickname is “ Thirsty, the Bear” because like Smokey, who puts out fires, he’ll kill your thirst!! Incredible drinks knowledge, loves Happy Hour, ask him about it, and probably the sweetest, cuddliest, and furriest man one could love!! Not to mention how well-versed he is in the history of the bar, ask him about it. Thirsty, makes this place a must go, and I hope he never leaves! May he become a fixture in the East...
