My husband and I order from Thai Room quite often. While usually good, the same dishes can taste different every time.
Aside from the food, the customer service is beyond terrible. The most recent encounter my husband and I had was when we ordered the Thai Cold Spring Roll (PHO PIA SOD) for delivery (as shown in the first bright, colourful photo taken from the website), a dish that we had ordered before in the restaurant and enjoyed. On the menu and website, the dish was described as "Fresh rice paper rolls stuffed with lettuce, egg, cucumbers, coriander, avocado, carrots, red pepper...". When the food arrived, it looked completely different (as shown in the second photo). The dish I was given was stuffed with mostly lettuce, one piece of red pepper, a few strings of carrots, two pieces of tofu, one strip of cucumber, and no egg or avocado. My husband called the restaurant to explain what had happened and asked what they could do to help. The woman, named "Henny" (sp?), first told us that "different chefs make it differently". When we said that it was COMPLETELY different from the photo shown and from what we had ordered before, she told us that we could call the manager and ask him to change the photo on the website. When we said that doing that would not help us in the moment, she offered to put a note on our file, saying that we could get a free Cold Spring Roll dish the next time we went into the restaurant. We said we didn't want that, as we were already not happy with the dish. We asked her if we could order the Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables as a replacement even the restaurant would be closing soon, she said that she could not do that because it was more money (literally $3 more). She then offered to send us a new cold spring roll dish, but specified that it would be the same. When we told her how ridiculous that was, she handed the phone to one fo the cooks. The cook essentially told us the same things that Henny did. My husband then told the cook that he wanted the vegetable stir fry instead, to which the cook said that the restaurant had closed, and offered again to comp us the next time we went into the restaurant with a cold spring roll dish with more vegetables. My husband said, "That's great for next time, but what is my wife supposed to eat now?" The cook disappeared without saying anything, then finally returned to say "Okay, we all give you the vegetable stir fry in half an hour", and hung up. Thankfully, the food showed up less than half an hour later and was pretty tasty.
It's such a shame that people might miss out on yummy food because of the staff's utter ignorance of customer service and...
Read moreUpdate: 4 years later. as much as we used to like we went yesterday again and saw that the prices went up, which makes sense in today's environment, but in parallel the quantity went down significantly and the percentage of the meat which was never very high went even more down, they changed the plates to smaller ones to make it seem full. You either raise prices or reduce quantity, not both. This is the best way to lose customers. In addition the food was so greasy there was a thick layer of oil at the bottom of each plat, we just couldn't continue eating at some point. As for service not sure what people get excited about, it's the most minimal interaction I've had in restaurant and it's every time. They take your order, bring the food (usually not all at once and with significant delays between dishes served to different people where one can finish eating while another didn't get his food yet) and the check at the end. We never got checked upon after getting the food, and this is every time we came here. I say came, because yesterday was the last time there.
Old review 4 years ago: Very good thai food, actually the best we've had in Toronto. Tried other restaurants and they were all a big disappointment compared to this one. The only comment is the service, which is decent but not always the friendliest or the quickest, even when not too busy. their portions are very big and one dish can feed 2, and most of them have a nice amount of meat. This is our go to place for thai food, both for sit in...
Read moreThe food has deteriorated in quality in the last few months, here are some of the noticeable changes they have made:
They got rid of the black tupper takeout containers and food is placed in circular cardboard containers instead. The portion sizes have reduced signifcantly for takeout orders by atleast 30%.
Pad thai - they don't give lemon/lime with pad thai anymore. Their SIGNATURE pad thai with chicken and shrimp has no beansprouts, chives or green onion in it, it's strictly egg, chicken, shrimp and tofu - this isn't authentic. The portion of the pad thai has reduced by like 50% now. it only comes with 3 pieces of shrimp, like 5-6 pieces of chicken!!! mostly noodle...
Chili thai chicken - are they using the same chicken pieces for their pad thai/noodles for their stirfry dishes? the chicken pieces in this dish are sooo tiny and skinny!!!! they're mostly the size of the tip of my pinky finger and deep fried.
beef curry green - i counted 6 pieces of small beef in this curry, why are they skimping on meat and veggies in this curry? it is $18.00.... and the beef is sooo tinny
i think they use the same pieces of meat for their noodle dish and stirfry cus the meat is so tiny pieces
im so disappointed i won't come back here anymore, i was a loyal customer for thai room for 8 years!!!! but recently the quality is so bad it's not worth paying $60 for takeout on a week night just to get poor quality food. they're clearly trying to save money by reducing...
