Unfortunately, I won’t be able to give personal comments on food quality or price because I had to leave the diner even before I got a chance to be seated due to the staff’s unbelievable hostility.

While I was waiting to be seated at the entrance, I took a few pictures of the food being cooked on the stove. However, I was met with an incredibly hostile reaction from a kitchen staff who thought I took a photo of her. I tried to explain that I didn’t intend to take a photo of her as I was pointing the camera at the stove top where there was something being cooked in the pan. However, she refused to listen and demanded that I delete the photos saying “we are people, too” (not sure why being in a photo would make her less of a person, and she wasn’t even in the photos since, again, I was taking photo of the food). I saw that there was no point in dining in such a hostile environment, so I left and vowed to never come back.

I can understand if she doesn’t want to be in a photo, but here’s a thing: part of what this diner “sells” is the nostalgic vibe. Do you really expect customers to not take any photos? You will somehow end up in a few photos anyway, ESPECIALLY since your kitchen is open and everyone can see what you’re doing. Of course, I would understand if you’d just explained to me if there was some kind of “no photos” policy here. But you chose to be hostile and refused to understand even when I explained that you’re not even in the photos I had taken.

So, yeah, in the end I wish this diner well, despite such lack of civility (and apparently despite the low quality of food, according to many other reviews). Who knows how far people are willing to patronize this establishment just to satisfy their longing for some nostalgic vibe, which seems like one of the very few things this...

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the service I received at your restaurant on Feb 24th. My experience left me feeling discriminated against and utterly disrespected.

Upon arriving at your establishment, my party and I were informed that there was a wait due to all tables being occupied. We patiently waited our turn, only to witness other groups being seated before us, despite arriving after we did. What baffles me is that these groups, some of which were of the same size as ours, were given priority treatment.

When I questioned the server about the unfairness of the situation, I was met with a feeble excuse that they thought we were a group of four. This explanation is not only nonsensical but also deeply troubling. Why would a group of four, regardless of their race or ethnicity, be prioritized over another group of the same size?

The blatant disregard for our presence and the preferential treatment given to other patrons leads me to believe that I was subjected to discrimination based on my race. It is unacceptable that in this day and age, such biases continue to influence how individuals are treated in public spaces.

I demand a thorough investigation into this matter and appropriate action taken against the server responsible for this egregious behavior. Furthermore, I urge you to implement comprehensive diversity and sensitivity training for all staff members to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

As a customer who values fairness and equality, I expect better from your establishment. I sincerely hope that you will take swift and decisive action to address this issue and restore my faith in...

You are not allowed to share ! We discovered The George Street Dinner in the middle of the pandemic. We waited anxiously for the reopening and, it was "love at first side", the food was absolutely tasteful and since then at least once a month we went back there to pick up our favorite meal: Ultimate Irish Breakfast. Yes, we like to share. We are not used to eat big portions and we like to eat small portions and complement with a nice dessert. Yesterday we went all the way from Etobicoke specially to have our favorite meal and a nice dessert, but then we had an unpleasant surprise! You CANNOT ask for only ONE plate, share and then ask for another. We were informed that if we wanted to ask only ONE plate we would have a surcharge of 50% on the ordered plate's price. I took a time to write this Google Review because this sounded so rude and honestly, ruined all our excitement of our lunch. The idea of sharing the plate was given by their waiter when we first visited the diner, back in 2020. He said that was well served and if we were not used to eat big portions we should definitely share and go ahead with a dessert. Please, review your policy. Value the customers, and especially the returning customers. You have an awesome diner and offer delicious meals. However, this behavior really affected our impression from our favorite diner in Toronto. We supported you with our patronage throughout the hardest days of the pandemic, and we feel we were "rewarded" with the kind...

My friends and I decided to try out The George Street Diner while I was visiting from Halifax. It was a first time for all three of us & surely won't be the last. When we arrived there was a short wait of about five minutes, we were then offered a spot at the bar stools instead of waiting longer for a table, which we took. The atmosphere was fun, the staff all looked happy as they sang to some great tunes and bounced around with smiles on their faces. Our food came hot & quick. Our server was friendly and had a great vibe. I ordered the Ultimate Irish Breakfast and it was the best breakfast I had while visiting Toronto. The eggs were perfectly cooked with a dark orange yolk. It also came with sausage, bacon and ham, all top notch and cooked perfectly, there was also beans, onions and mushrooms which were delicious. Additionally the breakfast came with some of the tastiest fries and there was also a soda bread which I had never tried before and when I enquired on ingredients (for allergies) the staff were extra helpful on what it contained. My friend had the breakfast sandwich and I had a bite.... oh my goodness, one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've tasted ! The challah bread was sooo good !! I enjoyed everything about this Toronto gem. I can't wait to return to the city so I can go back to The George Street Diner !

I read the reviews and was excited to dine...unfortunately, did not have the best experience...the service was ok...the food was Meh..Felt like we were nickeled and dimed for everything. My husband ordered pancakes which come as a full stack of pancakes...he was given a super small pat of butter...we asked for more butter as the pancakes are huge..we were given another SUPER small pat of butter (please see picture of the butter).. the syrup that was provided was a small container of syrup...again for a large stack of pancakes...we asked for more and were told there would be a cost...this inevitably led to super dry pancakes...I asked for lemon for my water....was told there would be a $.10 charge for a slice of lemon..I have never been charged for lemon in any establishment...but I acquiesced as I wanted the lemon..I had the french toast with blueberry ricotta filling...they were not tasty....all of this made for a very sour visit.. we did not enjoy the pancakes or the dining experience...we are not difficult diners and do not normally complain, however, this was abit much for us...

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday morning, and despite the weekend rush, the wait time wasn’t too bad—we waited about 10 minutes before getting a seat at the bar. My friend, who recently lost his job, ordered a cup of coffee, and I got the egg sandwich for breakfast. When we placed our order, the server looked at us and said, “That’s all you’re getting today?” We said yes, and she responded by pointing out that there were many people waiting for a table and questioned why we weren’t ordering more. I mentioned that my friend had ordered a coffee and that this was all we wanted, but she insisted that two people couldn’t take up a seat if only one person was ordering. I understand that restaurants need to maximize their earnings, especially during busy hours, but I wish the situation had been handled with more tact. My friend felt embarrassed, especially since he couldn’t afford to order more, and the exchange was loud enough for others to hear. That being said, the food was great, and we still had a nice time. I just hope the staff can be a bit more mindful in the future.
